Job summary

The Agency Safety and Health Director 1 in the NYC Region of New York State Parks leads safety programs across multiple facilities, directing policies, hazard assessments, training, and regulatory compliance. This hands-on role blends field work with administrative duties to support park operations and emergency preparedness.

Reporting to the Deputy Regional Director, the incumbent supervises staff, coordinates operations, and contributes to emergency management and community safety initiatives,

Qualifications

• Eight years of experience in occupational health and safety program development and administration for organizations of 500+ employees or a relevant bachelor's degree.
• Valid driver's license and ability to operate a motor vehicle in New York State.
• Ability to supervise others, communicate effectively, and read and comprehend written materials.
• Willingness to support NYC Regional operations, volunteer events, emergency management response, and work minimum 40 hours weekly.
• Fluency in Spanish preferred.

Responsibilities

• Oversees occupational health and safety programs for the NYC Region of New York State Parks.
• Develops and implements safety policies, conducts hazard assessments, and provides staff training.
• Ensures compliance with safety regulations across dispersed park facilities.
• Performs hands-on field work to support park operations and emergency preparedness.
• Reports to the Deputy Regional Director and coordinates emergency response.
