Trane Technologies is seeking an accomplished business and technical leader to serve as Regional Preconstruction Business Leader for our North America Energy Services business. This role leads the regional Preconstruction organization with accountability for profitable growth, business performance, forecasting, resource investment, talent, and organizational capability. The leader will manage a multidisciplinary team of Project Developers, Energy Engineers, and Design-Build/Estimating professionals responsible for developing complex building and energy solutions from initial customer opportunity through contract and transition to execution. Working closely with Sales and Operations, this leader will shape regional strategy, align resources to the right opportunities, and translate market and customer needs into technically sound, financially viable, and executable solutions. Success requires a leader who combines strong business acumen with technical credibility. The ideal candidate understands how complex technical solutions are developed, priced, sold, and executed, and can effectively lead technical professionals while making sound decisions around growth, investment, risk, talent, and business performance.

Key Responsibilities
Regional Business & Growth Leadership
  • Lead regional Preconstruction business performance, including forecasting, profitability, development investment, resource utilization, and capacity planning.
  • Shape regional Preconstruction strategy, investment priorities, and portfolio direction based on market opportunities, customer needs, competitive dynamics, and business priorities.
  • Lead portfolio and resource decisions by balancing opportunity value, development investment, capacity, risk, and expected business outcomes.
  • Establish disciplined operating rhythms and Management Excellence around pipeline, forecasting, portfolio performance, capacity, and development effectiveness.
  • Anticipate the talent, leadership, and technical capabilities needed to support current and future regional growth.
Technical & Solution Leadership
  • Lead the regional Preconstruction organization across Project Development, Engineering, and Design-Build/Estimating.
  • Provide leadership for complex technical solution development, ensuring appropriate consideration of scope, cost, performance, financial viability, constructability, schedule, and risk.
  • Guide strategic opportunities from conceptual solution development through pricing, risk review, proposal, contracting, and execution readiness.
  • Bring the technical judgment needed to challenge assumptions, coach technical teams, evaluate project risk, and make informed business decisions.
  • Connect regional teams with North America expertise, capabilities, tools, and best practices to strengthen complex pursuits and regional capability.
Sales & Operations Partnership
  • Partner with Sales on market priorities, opportunity targeting, pursuit strategy, customer objectives, and development investment.
  • Support strategic customer pursuits by connecting technical, financial, commercial, and operational considerations to customer value.
  • Partner with Operations throughout development to strengthen scope, pricing, constructability, scheduling, risk management, and execution readiness.
  • Create strong alignment and accountability across Sales, Preconstruction, and Operations from opportunity development through project handoff.
People, Capability & Change Leadership
  • Build, coach, and develop a high-performing organization of technical and project-development professionals.
  • Lead talent, succession, capability, and workforce planning to support regional growth.
  • Lead organizational change and adoption of new processes, technologies, tools, and ways of working.
  • Drive continuous improvement, standard work, accountability, collaboration, and knowledge sharing throughout the organization.
Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate is a seasoned business and people leader with experience leading technical teams and complex solution development. This individual combines strategic thinking, strong commercial and financial acumen, technical judgment, and the ability to translate market and customer needs into technical solutions. Candidates do not need to be experts in every Energy Services discipline. The successful candidate should have enough experience with complex technical solutions, building systems, engineering, project development, design-build, contracting, infrastructure, or a comparable technical environment to credibly lead experienced professionals, challenge assumptions, understand risk, and quickly develop deeper Energy Services expertise.

Qualifications
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in technical project development, engineering, preconstruction, complex building systems, design-build, infrastructure, Energy Services, or a related technical solutions environment.
  • Demonstrated success leading multidisciplinary technical or project-development teams and delivering business results.
  • Strong understanding of how complex technical solutions move from customer need and concept through scope development, pricing, financial evaluation, risk assessment, contracting, and execution.
  • Strong business and financial acumen, including forecasting, budgeting, profitability, investment decisions, portfolio prioritization, and resource planning.
  • Demonstrated ability to understand market drivers, customer needs, competitive dynamics, and growth opportunities and translate them into strategy and action.
  • Experience partnering across Sales, technical teams, and Operations to develop and execute complex customer solutions.
  • Proven people leadership, coaching talent development, and organizational capability building.
  • Demonstrated experience leading change, continuous improvement, and adoption of new processes or operating practices.
  • Strong strategic thinking, communication, business judgment, and cross-functional leadership skills.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Business, or a related field; or equivalent relevant experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in Energy Services, HVAC, building automation and controls, mechanical/electrical systems, Performance Contracting/ESPC, complex Design-Build, Turnkey, or related building and infrastructure solutions.
  • Familiarity with energy efficiency, technical solution development, estimating, constructability, building performance, or measurement and verification.
  • CEM, PE, PMP, or similar relevant professional certification.
