Job summary

Boston Region MPO is seeking a Regional Planner/Program Manager to coordinate the UPWP and support a range of planning activities across the Boston region’s 97 communities. You will work with staff, directors, and MPO board members to translate priorities into a cohesive annual work program.

You will also assist in LRTP development, equity research, and analysis of emerging planning issues, ensuring alignment with federal requirements and regional goals for mobility, access, and resilience.

Qualifications

• At least three years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, experience in urban or regional planning, transportation planning, or related fields.
• A bachelor’s degree may substitute for two years of experience.
• A master’s degree may substitute for professional experience.
• Strong project management, organization, and analytical skills (qualitative and quantitative).
• Ability to prepare clear and concise reports.
• Strong relationship-building and ability to facilitate inclusive dialogue with diverse stakeholders.
• Ability to work both collaboratively and independently.
• Excellent written and verbal presentation skills for diverse audiences.
• Proficiency with spreadsheets and databases.
• Commitment to transportation equity, environmental sustainability, climate resiliency, safety, and economic vitality.
• Attention to detail and QA of all products.

Responsibilities

• Work with staff, directors, and MPO board members to establish annual regional transportation planning priorities.
• Structure and develop a document presenting the MPO's annual work program.
• Collaborate with the finance team to include budgetary information.
• Ensure the UPWP aligns with federal and state requirements and MPO vision.
• Support UPWP Committee meetings by preparing agendas and summaries.
• Develop proposals for transportation planning studies and projects with various stakeholders.
• Evaluate and select studies for incorporation into the UPWP.
• Provide policy, process, and technical support for MPO planning activities.
