Merck is seeking a Regional Medical Scientific Director to lead scientific exchange and research across IN, KY, WV, and VA, with up to 50% travel. The role requires a terminal degree and strong external engagement with key medical leaders to advance company-sponsored and investigator-sponsored studies.

The position emphasizes scientific excellence, adherence to GMSA SOPs, and leadership in an inclusive culture.

Qualifications

PhD, PharmD, DNP, DO, or MD required.
Minimum 3 years of relevant therapeutic area experience beyond degree program.
Ability to conduct doctoral-level discussions with key external stakeholders.
Knowledge of FDA, OIG, HIPAA and related guidelines and regulations.
Excellent stakeholder management, communication, and networking skills.
Willingness to travel up to 50% within the territory.

Responsibilities

Develops relationships with national and regional SLs to share approved medical information.
Conducts peer-to-peer scientific discussions and maintains a medical contact within the company.
Addresses scientific questions and directs inquiries outside scope to appropriate resources.
Maintains current knowledge of AOI and therapeutic area.
Identifies potential investigators and participates in site initiation visits for trials (phase II–IV).
Provides protocol leadership in collaboration with GCTO and answers investigators’ questions about studies.
Engages in scientific congresses and meetings to facilitate data exchange.
Gathers feedback to inform medical needs, priorities, and concerns of SLs and patients.
Leads by example and fosters an inclusive, empowering environment.
