Job summary

Saputo Cheese USA Inc. is seeking a Health & Safety leader to implement and sustain safety programs across multiple plants in the United States. You will direct H&S activities, develop policies, train teams, and ensure regulatory compliance at all locations.

The role requires a bachelor’s degree in a safety-related field and at least 5 years of manufacturing H&S experience, with strong OSHA knowledge and leadership abilities. Travel up to 60% is expected.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in safety management, environmental or chemical engineering, industrial hygiene, industrial risk, management or a related field or equivalent experience.
• Minimum 5 years of health and safety experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Knowledge and understanding of OSHA regulations.

Responsibilities

• Implement and sustain the organization’s Health and Safety management programs, directing activities for all plants and locations to ensure regulatory compliance.
• Provide direction to plant H&S teams and assist in developing, implementing and managing plant policies, procedures, programs and training.
• Implement divisional Health & Safety programs and directives across assigned plants and facilities.
• Provide technical and high-level H&S related training as required.
• Maintain working knowledge of federal, state and local health and safety regulations.
• Develop Health Safety champions in the plants, driving accountability.
• Conduct audits and inspections of plant and warehousing activities and train others.
• Assist with Peer-to-Peer audits and support health and safety teams.
• Review plant incident reports, conduct investigations and take action steps.
• Provide plant-level support during agency inspections and assess costs of safety incidents.
• Provide safety guidance to operations, engineering, and other departments on plant projects.
• Support Environmental, Refrigeration Services and Risk Management initiatives.
• Provide leadership in all areas of Health & Safety.

JOB DESCRIPTION

How you will make contributions that matter:

• Responsible for implementing and sustaining the organization’s Health and Safety management programs, directing health and safety activities for all assigned plants and locations to ensure regulatory compliance, and protecting human health and the environment.
• Provide direction to the plant H&S teams and assist the plants in developing, implementing, sustaining and managing plant specific policies, procedures, programs and training to achieve and maintain compliance with H&S related laws and regulations. (HOP, Management of Change (MOC), Insight, etc.)
• Implement divisional Health & Safety programs and directives across assigned plants and facilities.
• Provide technical and high-level H&S related training as required.
• Maintain working knowledge of federal, state and local health and safety regulations.
• Develop Health Safety champions in the plants, driving accountability into supervisory levels.
• Conduct audits and inspections of plant and warehousing activities. Train others on conducting such audits and inspections. Inform plant management of conditions which could lead to potential violations of laws and regulations or company policies and procedures and support resolutions.
• Assist with Peer-to-Peer audits.
• Support health and safety teams and the activities of its members.
• Review and assist with plant incident reports, conduct investigations, and take appropriate action steps to address problems as needed.
• Provide plant-level support during agency inspections.
• Assess costs to the company from safety incidents and report to management to facilitate decision-making.
• Provide safety guidance and recommendations to operations, engineering, and other departments on any plant projects.
• Support Environmental, Refrigeration Services and Risk Management initiatives and work closely with key personnel from these departments.
• Provide leadership in all areas of Health & Safety.
• Perform additional duties as required (e.g. project management, program management, etc.).

You are best suited for the role if you have:

• Bachelor’s degree in safety management, environmental or chemical engineering, industrial hygiene, industrial risk, management or a related field or equivalent experience.
• Minimum 5 years of health and safety experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Knowledge and understanding of OSHA regulations is required.
• Strong customer orientation; ability to develop relationships and influence managers at all levels internally (i.e. management teams) and externally (Regulators).
• Strong interpersonal and presentation skills as well as strong and positive leadership presence.
• Ability to persist in sustaining initiatives past project completion dates.
• Strong sense of urgency in solving problems and getting the work done.
• Train and motivate others to champion Health & Safety success.
• Business knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
• Strong interpersonal, communication, presentation and analytical skills.
• Ability to work in a team environment as well as independently with good time management, prioritization and organizational skills.
• Must be a self-starter.
• Ability to conceptualize and lead change initiatives.
• Ability to travel frequently (up to 60%),

Salary Range: $107,350 - $140,895.

Salary will vary commensurate with experience, education skills and training.
