Northern Plains Railroad, Inc. is seeking a Regional Manager in Sioux Falls, SD to lead the Complete Track Works division.

This full-time role manages multiple crews, equipment and trucking to meet safety, quality and profitability goals while cultivating client relationships. The position requires 50% travel, oversees daily operations, budgeting, scheduling, and coordination with departments to develop a profitable track construction and maintenance program.

Qualifications

  • GED or High School Diploma.
  • 5+ years of field operations experience.
  • 5 years of leadership experience in construction/railroad.
  • Must have and maintain an insured driving status including NPRS driver provisions.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership, vision, employee development and teamwork initiatives to build a successful rail contracting division.
  • Plans and carries out schedules and assists in the initiation and implementation of procedures for track and structures construction, maintenance, and inspection.
  • Investigates and diagnoses track failures, maintenance problems, and safety issues, and renders corrective action promptly.

Summary

This RegionalisresponsibleformanagingallbusinessactivitiesfortheCompleteTrackWorksdivisionincluding planning, budgeting, estimating, equipment, and leadership ofcompanypersonnelwith the upmost integrity. Position will train, manage, and direct the day-to-day coordination of multiple crews of workers, equipment, and trucking to meet or exceed expectations for safety, quality, profitability, and schedule, forming long-lasting client-contractor relationships.

Working closely with the Department Management this position will develop a dynamic and profitable division that supports the business development activities to allow for growth and sustainability with track construction, maintenance, inspection services, and general third-party consulting.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities but are not limited to:

  • Provideleadership,vision,employeedevelopmentandteamworkinitiativestobuildasuccessfulrailcontractingdivision.
  • Plansandcarryoutschedulesandassistsintheinitiationandimplementationofappropriateproceduresassociatedwith track and structures construction, maintenance, and inspection.
  • Investigatesanddiagnosestrackfailures,difficultmaintenanceproblems,andcriticalsafetyissues,andrenderscorrective action in a timely manner.
  • Mustbeabletoimmediatelyrespondtosafetyconcernsastheyarise.
  • Overseemanagementoftheday-to-dayconstructionandmaintenanceactivitiesthroughoutassignedregion.
  • Responsibleforthecoordinationofworkdirectedinthefieldandplanspreventativemaintenanceandprojectprograms for industry and mainline track systems and equipment to ensure their safe and efficient operation.
  • Monitorteamstoensurethatemployeescomplywithcompanysafetyandoperatingrules,policies, procedures,and governmental regulations.
  • Evaluatestheefficiencyandeffectivenessofmaintenancecrews,includingadherencetoworkplans,performance, quality, and safety, to ensure that project objectives are achieved.
  • Responsiblefordevelopingastrategicplanthatincludescompetitorandmarketassessmentsandlaborneeds.Identifiesand plans for capital improvements and maintenance need to support the operation.
  • Workswithappropriatestaffandvendorstooverseethemaintenanceandreplacementprogramsofrailroadequipment.
  • Workwiththe Safetydepartment,financialdepartment,andContractAdministrationonContractorprequalificationsubmittals
  • Promoteasafeworkenvironmentthroughthedevelopmentofsafetyprograms,goals,andmeasurements.
  • VisitworksitescarryingadditionalPPEtoobserve crews,performquality&safetyaudits,andensureemployeetask specific training.
  • Workstodevelopandmaintainworkingrelationshipswithmajorcustomersandseekoutpotentialnewcustomers.
  • Prospectforpotentialnewclientsandturnthisintoincreasedbusinessopportunities.
  • Developorganizationalstructuretosupportbusinessplanlevels.
  • Analyzeexpendituresandotherfinancialinformationtodevelopplansandbudgetsforincreasingprofitsandreducingcosts.
  • Effectivelyutilizeperformancemanagementandinterpersonalskillstocoach,trainandprovidefeedbacktomaximize employee potential.
  • Goodunderstandingoftheprojectrequirements(timeframe,budget,safety,quality,workforce,materials,andequipment requirements) necessary to complete the project within the required time frame.
  • Ensurethatthejobsiteisalwayskeptinaclean,safe,secure,andorganizedmanner,directlyorthroughsupervision.
  • Identifyconflictsinmaintenanceprogressandcommunicatewithtrackteamforresolution.
  • Maintaindailylogs&detailedrecords(written)(photo)ofactivitiesonthejobsite,directlyorthroughsupervision.
  • Performmaintenanceprogressandcompletionpunchlistidentificationandcompletion.
  • Maintaintrackandalltrackrelateddevicestoassuresafeandefficienttrainoperations.
  • PerformManagementdutieswhileonprojectlocationsandjobsitesasrequired.
  • Budget,bid,invoice,andidentifyareasofworkthatareoutsidetheoriginalscope.
  • Enterintomonetaryagreements(changeorders,additionalworkauthorizations), communicatingwithProjectManagement teams as required.
  • Interviewandhiresub-tieremployeesandevaluateperformance.
  • Performvariousdutiesasrequired bythe Director of Operations.
  • Ensurethatallsafetyrequirementsaremetinaccordancewithcompanyexpectationsandcustomerrequirements.
  • Will perform work on Northern Plains Railroad as directed.

Education and Training:

  • 5years’leadershipexperienceinrelatedconstruction/railroadfield.
  • MusthaveandmaintainaninsurabledrivingstatuswhichincludesbutisnotlimitedtoNPRSdriverprovisions.
  • Validdriver’slicense.
  • Ability to obtain a DOT medical card and or CDL preferred.
