Job summary

Qualifications

• 7+ years of regional H&S oversight for multiple locations within a region involving chemicals, warehousing, and transportation fleets.
• Bachelor's in Chemical Engineering, EHS, or related field, or equivalent relevant experience.
• Thorough familiarity with OSHA and state equivalents for chemical facilities.
• Experience managing federal, state, and local regulatory compliance across multiple facilities in several states.
• Ability to audit facilities and address audit findings thoroughly.
• Experience managing OSHA recordkeeping and H&S metrics for multiple facilities.
• Develop and facilitate H&S training content and deliver training to teams.

Responsibilities

• Serve as regional liaison between national health and safety programs and Univar’s regional operations; draft regional program portions and educate on them.
• Provide support to continuously improve health and safety at individual facilities.
• Lead in preparing required plans (e.g., PSM) and facility operating procedures (e.g., LOTO).
• Act as regional contact for local, state, and federal health and safety agencies.
• Lead EHS audit processes and help operations address audit recommendations.
• Participate in accident investigations and conduct root cause analyses; train managers accordingly.
• Define and monitor health and safety performance metrics.
• Stay current on regulatory requirements and communicate updates to operations and leadership.

Job description

Regional Health and Safety Manager:

This position plays a critical role in implementing Univar’s strategic initiatives to become world class in protecting the health and safety of Univar employees. The position works collaboratively with other Regional Health & Safety and Regulatory Managers to collectively support field operations. As a field support role, a minimum of 50% travel is expected.

What You’ll Do:

• Serve as regional liaison between national health and safety programs and Univar’s regional operations. Participate in drafting regional portions of new programs. Introduce, educate and provide training on them.
• Provide support and motivation to continuously improve health and safety measures at individual facilities.
• Take lead in preparing required plans (e.g. PSM) and as appropriate facility operating procedures (e.g., machine specific LOTO)
• Serve as regional contact for local, federal, and state health and safety agencies.
• Lead EHS audit process in assigned area of responsibility. Assist operations in addressing audit recommendations.
• Participate in accident investigations, perform root cause analysis for all injuries and near misses, train operations managers to conduct thorough investigations and root cause analysis.
• Help define and support health and safety performance metrics.
• Maintain knowledge of all applicable corporate, federal, state and local health and safety regulatory requirements. Stay abreast of developing regulatory requirements, particularly on a state and local level, identifying when Univar should be involved in the legislative or regulatory process. Keep operations and Director of Health & Safety informed of new and developing regulations.
• Participate in and support cross-functional project teams and committees.

What You’ll Need:

• 7+ years experience providing health & safety functional oversight for multiple locations within a region for a chemical (or related) company that includes warehousing and transportation fleet.
• Bachelors degree in Chemical Engineering, Environmental Health & Safety or related field; OR equivalent relevant experience.
• Thorough familiarity with OSHA and state equivalents for chemical (or related) facilities.
• Demonstrated ability to manage federal, state and local regulatory compliance at multiple facilities in multiple states.
• Demonstrated ability to effectively and thoroughly audit facilities as well as assist in addressing audit findings
• Demonstrated ability to manage OSHA recordkeeping and H&S metrics for multiple facilities
• Demonstrated ability to develop H&S training content and facilitate learning through leader-led training and other learning platforms.

Where You'll Work:

This is a hybrid role based at our Bedford Park, IL location.

• The salary range is $122,000 - $135,000. This role is also eligible for incentive pay.
