Job summary

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, or related field.
  • 5–7 years of environmental compliance experience in food processing/manufacturing.
  • Strong knowledge of federal/state environmental regulations including permitting, air, water, wastewater, hazardous waste.
  • Experience with environmental management systems and compliance auditing.
  • Ability to work with senior management and cross-functional teams.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; strong analytical abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple facilities and prioritize tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee environmental compliance programs for multiple facilities, ensuring adherence to regulations.
  • Conduct audits, inspections, and risk assessments to identify improvements.
  • Implement policies and best practices to enhance compliance and sustainability.
  • Monitor facility permits and ensure timely reporting and renewals.
  • Provide training and guidance to plant environmental managers and staff.
  • Support regulatory responses, inspections, and inquiries.
  • Lead investigations into environmental incidents and enforce corrective actions.
  • Support sustainability initiatives like waste reduction and energy conservation.
  • Maintain records of compliance activities and prepare environmental reports.
  • Collaborate with operations, engineering and corporate sustainability teams.

Summary

Drive environmental excellence and sustainability initiatives across multiple food manufacturing facilities. As a Regional Environmental Manager, you will lead environmental compliance programs, support regulatory requirements, and partner with plant teams, corporate leadership, and regulatory agencies to ensure environmental stewardship and operational success. This position is remote; however, preference may be given to candidates located on the east coast.

  • Oversee environmental compliance programs for multiple prepared foods facilities, ensuring adherence to all applicable regulations, including federal, state, and local environmental laws.
  • Conduct audits, inspections, and risk assessments to identify areas for improvement and ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Implement environmental policies, procedures, and best practices to enhance compliance and sustainability efforts.
  • Monitor and assist in the management of facility permits, including air, water, and waste regulations, ensuring timely reporting and renewals.
  • Provide training and guidance to plant environmental managers and facility personnel on environmental requirements and best practices.
  • Assist facility operations and environmental staff with regulatory responses, inspections, reporting, and compliance-related inquiries.
  • Lead investigations into environmental incidents and notices of violation, ensuring corrective actions are implemented effectively.
  • Support sustainability initiatives, including waste reduction, energy conservation, and water efficiency projects.
  • Maintain accurate records of compliance activities and prepare required environmental reports for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with operations, engineering, and corporate sustainability teams to drive continuous environmental improvement.
Minimum Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree and/or significant experience in Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • 5-7 years of experience in environmental compliance, preferably within the food processing or manufacturing industry.
  • Strong knowledge of federal and state environmental regulations, including permitting, air emissions, stormwater, wastewater, and hazardous waste management.
  • Experience with environmental management systems and compliance auditing.
  • Proficiency in environmental management systems and reporting tools.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with senior management and other company functions and teams.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively interact with all levels of the organization and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage multiple facilities and prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Strong leadership and collaboration skills to influence environmental improvements across locations.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and environmental management software.

  • Commitment to ethical standards and a passion for promoting safety and sustainability.
Physical Requirements and Environmental Factors
  • Must be able to travel to company locations and regulatory meetings as needed. Travel requirements may vary, but 35% travel should be expected.
  • Work is performed in an office setting with occasional visits to operational sites, including manufacturing and agricultural environments.
  • Interact with employees at all levels, regulatory agencies, and external consultants.
