Job summary

Veolia in Arlington, TX is seeking a professional CDL driver to transport hazardous and non-hazardous materials to designated sites. You will inspect vehicles, ensure DOT paperwork is accurate, and maintain permits while adhering to safety and regulatory requirements.

The role requires a valid Class A CDL with Hazmat endorsement and prior driving experience. You will coordinate with customers on load conditions and assist with loading/unloading, while following Veolia policies.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • Valid Class A CDL with Hazmat endorsement.
  • Prior commercial driving experience required.
  • Familiar with DOT regulations for hazardous and non-hazardous materials.

Responsibilities

  • Perform daily pre-trip inspections of vehicle/trailer to ensure safety and integrity of equipment.
  • Review shipment records, manifests, container labeling, vehicle placards, and loaded drums for accuracy and compliance.
  • Ensure DOT requirements such as load weight limits, driver logs, permits, and insurance cards are up to date.
  • Communicate with customers regarding load conditions, paperwork, and any inconsistencies to ensure proper transportation.
  • Report any in-route incidents or violations to supervisor.
  • Assist with loading/unloading at designated sites using appropriate equipment.
  • Assist with housekeeping as required.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job description

Position Purpose:

Responsible for safely transporting hazardous and non-hazardous materials from the customer site to the appropriate designated sites using van trailers, tankers, roll-off frames, or other waste carrying equipment. Ensures that the condition of the material packaging meets the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) specifications, inspects manifests and shipping paperwork for accuracy, and maintains current transportation permits for all areas traveled. Abides by all regulations set forth by DOT, EPA, state and local governments, and VES-TS policies and procedures.

Primary Duties/responsibilities:
  • Perform daily inspections of vehicle and/or trailer prior to driving to ensure the safety and integrity of equipment going to designated sites.
  • Prior to transporting materials reviews shipment records, manifests, container labeling, vehicle placards, and integrity of loaded drums, roll-off boxes or bulk tankers.
  • Ensure that DOT requirements such as load weight limits, driver log books, Vehicle Inspection Records, transportation permits, insurance cards, fuel trip reports, IFTA fuel stickers, or other paperwork is up to date and valid.
  • Consults with customers pertaining to load conditions, drum counts or paperwork inconsistencies to ensure that materials can be properly transported to designated site(s)
  • Notify immediate supervisor of any moving violations and/or accidents in-route to and/or from sites.
  • Assist in the loading/unloading of materials at designated sites utilizing appropriate equipment.
  • Responsible for assisting with housekeeping as required.
  • Other duties as assigned
Education / Experience / Background:
  • High School diploma or General Educational Development (GED) required
  • Prior commercial driving experience required
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities:
  • Familiarity with U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations pertaining to the transportation of hazardous and non-hazardous materials
  • Strong team player
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Time management: the ability to organize and manage multiple tasks
  • Strong customer service orientation
Required Certification / Licenses / Training:
  • Valid Class A Commercial Driving License (CDL)
  • Hazmat (H) endorsement required
  • 40-Hour HAZWOPER training preferred
