Job summary

QTS Data Centers in Suwanee, GA is seeking a seasoned Controls Engineer to lead the design, integration, and commissioning of Building Management Systems (BMS), PLC, and SCADA for new data-center projects. You will coordinate with contractors and internal teams, validate system integrity from design through turnover, and serve as the primary escalation point for controls issues.

Qualifications

  • 7+ years of instrumentation and controls programming, installation, and commissioning experience.
  • 3+ years in HVAC control systems programming and electrical power monitoring.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or equivalent.
  • Experience with industrial automation and building management systems (PLC/DDC).

Responsibilities

  • Lead the implementation of BMS, EPMS, PLC, and SCADA for new data-center projects.
  • Manage partner relationships, drive standardization, verify design to turnover.
  • Serve as primary escalation point for controls issues and drive resolution.
  • Onboard and lead contractor teams (BMS leads, CSI, E&I controls).
  • Coordinate and manage factory-installed controls and BMS commissioning audits.
  • Facilitate cross-functional meetings to align status, risks, next steps.
  • Drive consistency and alignment with QTS standards across buildings.
  • Conduct inspections and validate BMS/SCADA implementation quality.
  • Support RFIs and documentation tracking to ensure closure.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the successful, high‑quality implementation of Building Management Systems (BMS), Electrical Power Monitoring Systems (EPMS), PLC, and SCADA platforms for new data‑center construction projects.
  • Manage relationships and workstreams with key partners, driving standardization and validating system integrity from design through commissioning and turnover.
  • Serve as the primary point of escalation for controls‑related issues and ensure resolution to closure.
  • Onboard and lead contractor teams, including BMS leads, CSI, and Electrical & Instrumentation (E&I) controls contractors.
  • Coordinate and manage factory‑installed controls and BMS commissioning audits, tracking deficiencies to completion.
  • Facilitate multi‑stakeholder meetings and weekly cross‑functional meetings with internal and external teams to align on project status, risks, and next steps.
  • Drive consistency and standardization across all buildings, system integrators, and installation contractors, ensuring alignment with QTS standards and specifications.
  • Conduct inspections (wiring, installation, commissioning) and validate project progress, including BMS and SCADA implementation quality.
  • Support issue resolution, RFIs, and documentation tracking to ensure timely closure.
Basic Qualifications
  • 7+ years of experience in instrumentation and controls programming/installation, general contractor MEP coordination/project management, and commissioning of data centers or large‑scale mission‑critical buildings.
  • 3+ years of experience with programming/designing HVAC control systems and electrical power monitoring.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or equivalent, or relevant work experience.
  • Experience with industrial automation and building management control systems (PLC/DDC).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Autodesk, CxAlloy, ACC Build, and Procore platforms.
  • Experience with PLC, SCADA, and OPC UA systems.
  • Certifications such as cGMP, CAP (Certified Automation Professional), PMP (Project Management Professional).
  • Experience with Rockwell and Inductive Automation Ignition platforms.

  • Proven ability to lead and mentor others.
  • Cultural alignment to humility, objectivity, and collaborative problem‑solving.
