Job summary

HJ Staffing is hiring Trash Collectors to support the City of Laredo's Solid Waste operations. You will work on collection routes, operate truck equipment, and help keep neighborhoods clean.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Valid Texas Driver's License.
• Ability to pass a background check and pre-employment drug/alcohol screening; subject to random drug and alcohol testing as a safety-sensitive position.
• Basic knowledge of, or ability to quickly learn, safe equipment operation and handling practices.
• Reliable, punctual, and able to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
• Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus, not required.

Responsibilities

• Ride collection routes and empty trash/recycling containers into the compactor unit on the garbage truck.
• Operate hydraulic lift levers and related truck equipment safely and correctly.
• Inspect carts and containers for objects that could damage equipment (rocks, dirt, wood, metal, etc.).
• Remove garbage and debris from residential and commercial areas and ensure proper disposal.
• Check sidewalks, curbs, and collection areas to confirm they're left clean after pickup.
• Assist with general street maintenance activities as needed.
• Communicate professionally with residents, coworkers, and City staff while on route.
• Follow all safety procedures and City of Laredo policies at all times.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

About the Role

• Work is performed primarily outdoors and is physically active
• Regular exposure to weather elements (heat, cold, dampness) and outdoor conditions (dust, noise, uneven surfaces)
• Must be able to exert up to 100 lbs of force occasionally, up to 50 lbs frequently, and up to 20 lbs constantly to move objects, containers, and equipment
• Frequent bending, lifting, walking, and riding on collection equipment
