Job summary

The City of Sarasota Solid Waste Management department is seeking a Probationary Full-Time Equipment Operator to provide reliable, efficient, and cost-effective refuse collection for cart customers. The role requires operating side or rear loading refuse trucks and adhering to safety standards to protect the public and coworkers.

The position is within the Solid Waste Management team, offering on-site work, physical duties, and on-call shifts as needed.

Qualifications

• One (1) year of experience operating heavy waste collection equipment or equivalent education/training.
• Possession of and ability to maintain a valid Class B State of Florida Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) is required.

Responsibilities

• Operate side or rear loading refuse collection vehicle safely and efficiently.
• Follow a regular route schedule and dump wheeled refuse carts.
• Collect refuse from assigned stops up to 40 pounds.
• Report carts needing service or repair and keep fuel/vehicle clean and fueled.
