Job summary

Catholic Charities of Onondaga County is seeking a Peer Navigator to assist refugees by maintaining office hours at partner sites and conducting home visits. You will document wellbeing, address concerns with supervisors, and help connect clients to essential health and mental health services.

Responsibilities include health checks, interpretation support, trainings, and accompanying clients to appointments as required. Competitive pay and growth opportunities are offered.

Qualifications

  • Associates degree in human services preferred.
  • High-school diploma with one year relevant experience required.
  • English writing and communication with diverse populations essential.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain regular office hours at assigned nonprofit partner locations and assist refugees on a drop-in basis.
  • Conduct home visits to assess wellbeing and integration; document findings with a standardized tool.
  • Report concerns to the Program Manager and Case Managers as appropriate.
  • Perform basic health checks (e.g., blood pressure) and report results to supervisor.
  • Link refugees to health and mental health services with the Refugee Health Coordinator at Northside CYO; provide interpretation as needed.
  • Attend monthly trainings with other Peer Navigators and support clients at health/mental health appointments.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

As a Peer Navigator, the primary responsibility is to maintain regular office hours at assigned non-profit partner locations and provide assistance to refugees on a drop-in basis. In addition to this, the role involves conducting home visits for referred refugees to assess their wellbeing and successful integration into the community. During these visits or office hours, utilizing a standardized assessment tool, document the refugees' wellbeing and any concerns observed. Report identified concerns to the Program Manager and Case Managers as appropriate. The position also entails performing basic health care checks, such as blood pressure checks, and reporting results to the supervisor. Furthermore, link refugees to suitable health and mental health services with the assistance of the Refugee Health Coordinator at Northside CYO. Act as a supportive peer advocate for refugees, addressing their individual needs, and accompany them to health and mental health appointments when necessary. Attend monthly trainings with other Peer Navigators and provide interpretation support for health and mental health services as required. And all other duties as assigned.


Pay for this position is: $23.00/hour


Qualifications

Education and/or Experience Required at Entry: Associates Degree in Human Services field preferred. HSDiploma with one (1) year relevant experience. Experience working with youth/teens while having the ability toengage with diverse families and respectful of cultural differences.


Licenses/Certificate/Clearances: N.Y.S. Child Abuse Registry Clearance


Skills and Abilities: Ability to write clear notes in English. Fluency in English and at least one of the followinglanguages: Somali, Sudanese Arabis, Farsi, Arabic, Karen, Burmese, Tigrinya, Swahili, Darhi and Pashto.


Working Conditions and Environment/Physical Demands: Mobility sufficient to drive to and participate inmeetings at client’s homes and/or community facilities which may not meet Federal accessibility standards fordisabled individuals, Manual dexterity sufficient to work with children/adults in a challenging and activeenvironment.
