Job summary

Prestage Foods in Camden, SC, seeks a refrigeration technician to support and maintain industrial ammonia refrigeration and related site utilities at a modern turkey processing plant.

The role requires 2+ years in refrigeration, GED, and preferred associates; refrigeration coursework is a plus. You will perform PM/PSM tasks, document logs, and ensure regulatory compliance while working 12-hour night shifts with overtime as needed.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years of work experience in refrigeration equipment and systems or related field.
  • Experience with ammonia refrigeration and safety regulations is required or preferred.
  • Familiarity with PM/PSM tasks and maintenance documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Operate, test, document ammonia refrigeration and other site utility systems (air compressors, boiler, etc.).
  • Safely install, start up, troubleshoot, and repair refrigeration equipment and monitor utilities.
  • Perform PM/PSM tasks with logs and documentation; oversee repairs and scheduling.
  • Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations; promote a safe work environment.
  • Collaborate with supervisor and coworkers; share refrigeration knowledge and improvements.

Job description

General:

Refrigeration technician supports and maintains the industrial ammonia refrigeration and other site utility systems of a state-of-the-art turkey processing plant. ?The position reports to the refrigeration supervisor w/ primary work schedule of 12-hr, 2-2-3-2-2-3 on straight nights with flexibility to work early/ late shift, overtime, weekends, and holidays, as needed.

Specific Duties / Responsibilities:
  • Successfully employ experience and knowledge in the operation, testing, documentation for ammonia refrigeration and other utility systems (e.g. - air compressors, boiler, etc.)
  • Routinely apply working knowledge of industrial refrigeration & site utility equipment and processes to safely install, start up, troubleshoot, and repair refrigeration and monitor other utility equipment operation.
  • Perform refrigeration PM / PSM (Process Safety Management) program tasks, including logs and documentation
  • Oversee and coordinator resources for PM and repairs of refrigeration systems / utility equipment
  • Ensure refrigeration system compliance with state and federal regulations & codes; maintain a safe work environment for self and staff.
  • Assist supervisor/co-workers w/ repairs; openly share refrigeration knowledge with others
  • Work with minimal supervision and bring continuous improvement suggestions for refrigeration and other utility systems to appropriate resources
  • Other duties as assigned by Manager/Supervisor.
Requirements
Education
  • GED (Min.) (required);Associates degree (preferred / not required)
  • Refrigeration coursework / certificate / formal training (preferred)
Experience
  • Min. of 2 years of work experience in refrigeration equipment & systems OR related field
Skills/Abilities/Attributes
  • Working knowledge of industrial ammonia refrigeration systems
  • Solid understanding of ammonia refrigeration regulations and systems
  • Detailed-oriented; able to work in fast-paced environment
  • Team player and w/ strong communication & interpersonal skills ?
Physical Requirements
  • Lift / move up to 40 lbs.; occasionally 50 lbs.
  • Stand, squat, climb and work from heights on regular basis, up to 12 hrs./shift
  • Operate in hot, cold, wet environment e.g., 35-40 / 100 degrees
  • Safely work w/ low & high voltage equipment
  • Communicate in English (verbal & written)
