Job summary

Americold in Fayetteville, AR is seeking an experienced Refrigeration Maintenance Technician to independently perform advanced refrigeration maintenance across the warehouse, including ammonia systems. You will set up equipment, monitor performance, troubleshoot complex systems, and supervise technicians while ensuring safety and OSHA compliance.

Requirements include 5+ years in industrial refrigeration, a high school diploma or GED, completion of relevant courses, and HAZMAT certification.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years of industrial refrigeration maintenance experience including ammonia refrigeration.
• High school diploma or GED required; completion of industrial refrigeration/maintenance courses is required.
• HAZMAT training and certification must be maintained.
• Experience troubleshooting control systems such as ALTA and Allen Bradley; CMMS experience.

• Set up operational settings and parameters for all refrigeration equipment.
• Monitor system performance and take actions to ensure optimal operation.
• Troubleshoot refrigeration, electrical, mechanical, and control systems to identify root causes.
• Replace components following lockout/tagout and safety procedures.
• Perform routine and complex maintenance on warehouse equipment per OSHA standards.
• Oversee internal/external technicians for compliance and quality control.
• Maintain preventive/predictive maintenance records and participate in improvements.

What You'll Do

Under minimal supervision, you will independently perform advanced refrigeration maintenance and repair throughout the warehouse to support operational objectives. Responsibilities include setting up and monitoring refrigeration equipment, troubleshooting systems, replacing components, and ensuring compliance with safety standards. You will also oversee contractors, participate in operational excellence initiatives, and assist in training less experienced technicians.

Essential Functions

• Define and set up operational settings and parameters for all refrigeration equipment.
• Monitor system performance and take actions to ensure optimal operation.
• Troubleshoot refrigeration, electrical, mechanical, and control systems to identify root causes and recommend corrective actions.
• Replace components within refrigeration systems following safe lockout/tagout procedures and safety program requirements.
• Perform routine and complex maintenance and repairs on various warehouse equipment in accordance with OSHA standards.
• Oversee and inspect work of internal and external technicians for compliance and quality control and assist in training and development of less experienced technicians.
• Maintain accurate preventive and predictive maintenance records and participate in operational excellence initiatives.
• Inspect and review "in progress" and "completed" work of internal and external technicians for compliance and quality control.
• Other essential duties may be applicable and assigned as necessary.

What Experience And Education You Need

• Minimum 5 years of industrial refrigeration maintenance experience including ammonia refrigeration.
• High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
• Successful completion of assigned industrial refrigeration and maintenance courses required.
• Required to complete HAZMAT training and maintain certification.
• Experience troubleshooting and repairing control systems such as ALTA and Allen Bradley.
• Computerized Maintenance Management System experience.

What Could Set You Apart

• Experience working in a cold storage environment.
• RETA CIRO/CARO certifications.
• Experience using Oracle Computerized Maintenance Management System.
• Demonstrated experience performing root cause analysis and component-level diagnostics on industrial refrigeration systems.
• Experience providing formal or informal technical training and mentorship to junior refrigeration technicians.

Physical Requirements

• Able to tolerate working environment with inside controlled temperatures of minus 45 (-45) degrees Fahrenheit (-43 degrees Celsius) and outside ambient temperatures (including heat, cold and precipitation).
• Able to work at heights in excess of 30 ft. (9 meters) and access elevated platforms, catwalks, and roofs.
• Able to work in confined areas.
• Able to climb ladders and stairs.
• Able to frequently to stand, walk, push, pull, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, and/or crouch.
• Able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds (23 kg) frequently.
• Able to operate hand and power tools safely.
• Able to meet specific vision abilities required by this job, including close vision, distance vision, color vision and depth perception. (Use of contacts are prohibited when working with ammonia.)
• Depending on specific role, able to pass a physical and respiratory/respirator fit exam.
• Able to frequently step up/on or step down/off to mount and dismount material handling equipment.
• Able to perform fine articulation movements with fingers/hands and/or feet to operate equipment.
• Able to wear personal protective equipment required for any/all tasks.
