Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking a skilled Commissioning Technician to support refrigeration, HVAC, and EMS infrastructure for supermarket projects in Maryland. You will perform site inspections, on-site commissioning, tests, and startup activities, ensuring systems meet design and performance standards.

You will document commissioning results, troubleshoot issues with project managers and engineering teams, and collaborate with contractors and vendors.

Qualifications

3+ years in supermarket construction, commissioning, or HVACR/controls maintenance.
Experience with large refrigeration rack systems (DX, Cascade, Micro DS, Transcritical CO2).
Experience operating Danfoss and/or Emerson supermarket control systems.
Strong organizational, analytical, and troubleshooting skills.
Good communication, both written and verbal.
Valid Driver’s License.
Ability to read technical drawings, schematics, and specs.
Detail-oriented with accurate documentation.
Customer-focused, professional field presence.
Ability to work independently following established processes.
Comfortable in machine rooms and field environments.

Responsibilities

Support start-up and commissioning of refrigeration, HVAC, and EMS infrastructure for supermarket projects.
Conduct site visits to inspect installation progress and verify scope and design.
Perform on-site commissioning, point-to-point testing, and functional verification.
Commission installed or relocated HVACR equipment.
Provide commissioning support for refrigeration rack systems with contractors.
Evaluate existing RHVAC and EMS systems for capital project integration.
Prepare interim and final commissioning documentation, noting exceptions and out-of-specs.
Track issue resolution with project managers and engineering teams.
Verify operation, communication, and programming of EMS and RHVAC control systems.
Implement minor wiring modifications and programming adjustments.
Support EMS programming updates and act as a technical resource.
Troubleshoot and resolve system issues remotely and on-site.
Collaborate with project managers, engineering teams, contractors, and vendors.
Communicate commissioning status, risks, and outstanding items to stakeholders.

Job description

Support the start-up and commissioning of refrigeration, HVAC, and EMS infrastructure for supermarket new construction and remodel projects
Conduct site visits to inspect installation progress and verify adherence to project scope, design documents, and programming standards
Execute on-site commissioning, point-to-point testing, and functional verification of EMS-controlled equipment
Commission newly installed or relocated HVACR equipment
Provide start-up and commissioning support for refrigeration rack systems with contractors and manufacturers
Evaluate and document existing RHVAC and EMS systems for capital project integration
Prepare interim and final commissioning documentation, identifying exceptions, deficiencies, and out-of-spec conditions
Track resolution of issues with Construction Project Managers and engineering teams

Requirements

Minimum 3+ years of experience in supermarket construction, commissioning, engineering, or HVACR/controls maintenance
Working knowledge of large refrigeration rack systems, including DX, Cascade, Micro DS, and Transcritical CO₂
Experience operating and programming Danfoss and/or Emerson supermarket control systems
Strong organizational, analytical, and troubleshooting skills
Effective oral and written communication skills
Valid Driver’s License
Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and specifications
Strong attention to detail and documentation accuracy
Customer-focused mindset with a professional field presence
Ability to work independently while following established processes and direction
Comfortable working in machine rooms and field environments that may be loud, dusty, confined, or difficult to access
