Job summary

North Central Utility (NCU) is seeking a self-motivated Reefer Technician to represent NCU in the semi-trailer service industry. The role involves diagnosing and repairing refrigerated trailers, performing PMs, and providing on-site service across Wisconsin locations.

Qualified candidates will have experience with reefers, diesel engines, and electrical systems, plus a strong work ethic and customer service skills. This is a full-time, on-site position with competitive pay and benefits.

Qualifications

  • Experience working on refrigerated trailers or transport refrigeration units.
  • Knowledge of diesel engines, electrical systems, and HVAC/refrigeration principles.
  • Perform preventive maintenance inspections on refrigeration units, including belts and fluids.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours or on-call rotations.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose, repair, and maintain refrigerated trailers (reefers) from major manufacturers.
  • Perform preventive maintenance inspections on refrigeration units.
  • Diagnose and repair diesel engines, cooling systems, electrical controls, and sensors.
  • Complete road calls and on-site repairs in a mobile service environment.

North Central Utility (NCU) is looking for a self-motivated and results-driven Reefer Technician to represent NCU in the semi-trailer service industry.

North Central Utility isone of the largest semi-trailer dealerships in the nation and the largest in the North Central region with 10 locations throughout Wisconsin, Minnesota and North Dakota. We offer reefer, dry van and flatbed trailers from Utility Trailer Manufacturing at all locations and vocational trailers from MAC Trailers in Wisconsin - we sell new and used semi-trailers. With Moore Space, we offer temporary storage container solutions as well. Our parts department has an extensive inventory in Heavy-Duty Truck/Tractor and Trailer parts. Our broad product line and geographic coverage ensures we are a “One Stop Shop” for truck and semi-trailer parts. Our service department offers everything from routine maintenance, certified DOT inspections to precision laser alignment, as well as complete wreck repair for trailers of all makes and models. No job is too big or too small for our skilled service technicians.

This positionis a safety-sensitive position, requiring pre-employment and post-accident drug testing.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Experience working on refrigerated trailers or transport refrigeration units
  • Knowledge of diesel engines, electrical systems, and HVAC/refrigeration principles
  • Diagnose, repair, and maintain refrigerated trailers (reefers) from major manufacturers (Thermo King,Carrier, etc.)
  • Perform preventive maintenance inspections (PMs) on refrigeration units, including belts, filters, fluids, and electrical systems
  • Troubleshoot and repair diesel engines, cooling systems, electrical controls, sensors, and temperaturemanagement components
  • Diagnose and repair AC/DC electrical systems, wiring, and control modules
  • Perform refrigerant recovery, evacuation, and charging per EPA guidelines
  • Identify mechanical, electrical, and refrigerant-related failures and determine proper correctiveactions
  • Complete road calls and on-site repairs in a mobile service environment (when applicable)
  • Use diagnostic software and tools to read fault codes and system data
  • Maintain accurate service records, inspection reports, and repair documentation
  • Communicate findings, repair recommendations, and timelines with customers or fleet managers
  • Follow all safety procedures, environmental regulations, and company policies
  • Maintain a clean, organized work area, service truck, and tools
  • Assist with other trailer or equipment repairs as needed
Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent preferred
  • EPA 608 certification (or ability to obtain)
  • Willingness to work flexible hours or on-call rotations
  • Basic set of tools

  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Welding or fabrication experience preferred
  • Forklift experience preferred
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of the position, including, but not limited to, the ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, twist, reach overhead, stoop, and squat repetitively for long periods of time
