Job summary

USO Building Co./US-Offsite in Redding, CA is seeking a Commercial Preconstruction Engineer/Estimator to turn concepts and drawings into accurate budgets and bid packages. You will work with the Preconstruction team, PMs, designers, vendors, and subs to clarify pricing and scope.

The role emphasizes attention to detail, reading drawings, and collaboration across estimating, design, and operations. Office-based estimating with site visits offers growth in modular construction and preconstruction

Qualifications

• Degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, Business, or related field preferred.
• Ability to read and interpret drawings, specifications, scopes, and construction documents.
• Strong Excel, Microsoft Office, and document organization skills.
• Experience with estimating, takeoffs, or project management software preferred.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills; highly organized and deadline-driven.

Responsibilities

• Review drawings, specs, scopes, and project documents for estimating and preconstruction needs.
• Prepare quantity takeoffs, conceptual budgets, detailed estimates, and cost comparisons.
• Assist with subcontractor solicitation, bid package preparation, scope leveling, and proposal review.
• Identify scope gaps, cost risks, constructability concerns, and value-engineering opportunities.
• Support preconstruction planning for modular, site, and vertical construction scopes.
• Collaborate with the Preconstruction team, Project Managers, designers, vendors, and subcontractors to clarify pricing and project scope.
• Prepare and organize estimate summaries, bid tabs, budgets, and supporting documentation.
• Track pricing updates, subcontractor responses, lead times, and outstanding preconstruction items.
• Assist with RFIs, design coordination, and cost impacts during early project development.
• Support smooth project handoff from Preconstruction to Operations by maintaining accurate files and clear scope documentation.
• Help improve estimating templates, cost databases, workflows, and internal preconstruction processes.
