Description of Work

The Recreational Therapist position will plan, implement and evaluate quality recreational therapy (RT) treatment programs for adults with co-occurring diagnoses based on an individual assessment of needs, interest, abilities and referrals from the physician. This position is responsible for providing non medical diagnostic services and rehabilitative treatment for each patient referred with appropriate documentation of patient progress and participation in RT groups. The Recreational Therapist is an integral part of the interdisciplinary treatment team, acting as the RT representative to the assigned unit. This position develops individualized treatment plans and implements interventions to improve life skills, enhancing quality of life and function of referred patients.

Recruitment Range: $41,407.00 - $62,111.00

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs):

• Knowledge of human structures, physiology of human structure, mechanics of movement, life-cycle growth and development.


• Knowledge of co-occurring disorders and their implications for Recreational Therapy services.


• Knowledge of psychological functioning, pathology in psychological functioning, cognitive learning and motor learning that contribute to health and human functioning.

Conditional Requirements: Ability to complete the physical requirements for CPR and CPI certifications.

This Position Is Designated As Mandatory And Must Report Or Stay Over During Adverse Weather Events.

About the Facility:

The Walter B. Jones Center operates two adult inpatient treatment programs on site in Greenville, NC: (1) Woodside Treatment Center and (2) Lakeside Psychiatric Hospital. The primary purpose and mission of the Walter B. Jones Center is \"To provide inpatient treatment, psychiatric stabilization and medical detoxification for individuals with mental health, substance use and other co-occurring psychiatric diagnoses for ongoing community based treatment and recovery\". The Center is accredited by the Joint Commission and SAMHSA/CSAT. Two specialty programs are offered to all 100 NC Counties: (1) Inpatient Opioid Treatment for adults and (2) Inpatient Perinatal Services for women in their 1st, 2nd, and 3rd trimesters with substance use disorders.
