Job summary

Masonicare at Ashlar Village in Wallingford, CT is seeking a dedicated Recreation Therapy Aide to develop and implement engaging programs benefiting memory care residents. The role emphasizes social, physical and cognitive stimulation through small group activities, special events and one-to-one interactions.

You will work with staff to create outings, support participation, and ensure safety through universal precautions.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or Equivalent is required.

Responsibilities

• Create and implement activity plans for residents, in the form of small groups, special events and entertainment. Modify programs to meet individual resident needs.
• Encourage resident participation and provide escort if necessary.
• Attend meetings as required and participate in mandated educational programs and in-services.
• Evening and weekend hours are possible.
• Plan and/or accompany residents on outings.
• Follow universal precautions and MSDS guidelines.
• Review evaluations on new residents with Memory Care Resource Coordinator.
• Complete dementia training as needed to foster a supportive dining experience for memory care residents.
• All other duties as assigned.

Day and Evening Shift / 24 hours per week

The Recreation Therapy Aide will develop and implement a variety of recreation programs and services to residents that are socially, physically and cognitively stimulating.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Create and implement activity plans for residents, in the way of small groups, special events and entertainment. Motivates residents for participation in either planned groups or on a one-to-one basis. Programs should be modified accordingly to meet the individual needs of residents.
• Encourage resident participation and provide escort if necessary.
• Attends meetings as required. Participate in educational programs and in-services as mandated.
• Evening and weekend hours possible.
• Plan and/or accompany residents on out trips.
• Understands and follows universal precautions an MSDS books.
• Review evaluation on new residents completed by Memory Care Resource Coordinator.
• Complete dementia training routinely and, as needed, to foster a supportive dining experience for our memory care residents.
• All other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent

Other: Pushing/pulling wheelchairs, climbing ladder (i.e.: decorating), using push carts for decorations or supplies, extensive standing/walking. Working under quarantine, universal precautions, occasional long hours, ongoing exposure to resident behaviors
