Position Type: Full-time (Exempt)

Developmental Trainers as both assigned sites; interns and volunteers as assigned


General Description


  • Perform QDIP duties across both sites.

  • Perform recreation therapy duties across both sites.

  • Serve at programs that lead for sexuality and healthy relationships education at both sites.

  • Implements general responsibilities.

  • Oversees personnel functions and maintenance of buildings, equipment and supplies.

  • Provide program design and functional leadership of staff at LLC.


Qualifications-Education or Equivalent

Bachelor's Degree in Therapeutic Recreation / Recreational Therapy, or a related human service field. Must meet State of Illinois QIDP eligibility requirements at the time of hire.


Minimum of one-year professional experience working with persons with intellectual and other developmental disabilities.


Minimum two to three years of supervision experience

Qualifications- Skills

English reading/verbal writing skills, math, interpersonal, driving, computer literacy, organizational skills, ability to work independently, as well as part of an interdisciplinary team.


Proficiency or expertise with (Google, HSMS, Microsoft Excel, Word and Zoom)


Essential Duties

A. Perform QIDP duties across both sites.



  • Participate in the application and intake process.

  • Ensure that the central case record is maintained in an accurate, complete, organized and secure condition.

  • Act as a liaison for persons served to assist in obtaining services needed and facilitating communication between team members, staff, administration, parents/guardians and other agencies as well as for referral, linkage, and follow up with other individuals and organizations

  • Ensure assessments are completed of persons served as needed.

  • Writes Implementation Strategies in accordance with outcomes developed in Personal Plan.

  • Writes monthly progress notes.

  • Maintains an assigned caseload drawn from both SKTC and LLC, as determined by the Senior Director, in order to support equitable distribution of caseload across program managers.

  • Provides QIDP coverage at either site during staff absence, vacancy, leave or periods of concentrated planning and annual review activity, as assigned by the Senior Director.


B. Perform recreation therapy duties across both sites.



  • Completes a recreation and leisure assessment for persons served at both sites upon entry and annually thereafter, identifying leisure interests and history, functional and cognitive abilities, social skills, physical activity tolerance, adaptive equipment needs, and barriers to participation.

  • Designs, schedules and facilitates therapeutic recreation groups at both sites, including physical activity and wellness, creative and expressive arts,music, social and communication skill building, sensory and multi-sensory programming, adapted leisure and sport, and community integration.

  • Evaluates program effectiveness at both sites using participation rates, outcome progress and satisfaction input from persons served; reports findings and recommends program changes to the Senior Director on at least a quarterly basis

  • Develops and maintains community partnerships, including park districts, libraries, fitness and wellness providers, arts organizations and volunteer sites, to expand integrated leisure and community participation options.

  • Trains, models and coaches Developmental Trainers at both sites on facilitating groups, activities and curriculum; conducts periodic fidelity observations and provides corrective feedback and re-training as needed.

  • Identifies programmatic gaps across sites, including unserved interest areas, low-engagement periods of the day and persons served who are not meaningfully engaged, and develops programming to close them.

  • Maintains inventory of recreation supplies, curriculum materials and adaptive equipment at both sites; recommends purchases to the Senior Director within budget.

  • Assists in the coordination of special events such as Summerfest and the Winter Holiday Party.

  • Maintains current knowledge of therapeutic recreation practice standards and participates in continuing education in the field.


C Implements general responsibilities.



  • Comply with all agency and external authority policies, procedures, rules and guidelines.

  • Maintains confidentiality of personnel, persons served and advocates.

  • Emphasizes safety rules and procedures including Universal Precautions.

  • Recommends risk prevention strategies.

  • Reports suspected and known misconduct including fraud, abuse or waste by staff or volunteers in accordance with Corporate Compliance requirements.

  • Reports suspected abuse, neglect, or financial exploitation of persons served in required timelines.

  • Participates in training to upgrade skills.

  • Maintains organized, clean, functional workspace and equipment.

  • Serves on internal/external committees or represents Organization at meetings as assigned.

  • Serves as an appropriate role model.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Salary range $65,000 - $68,000
