Job summary

New York State Department of Health seeks a Recreation Therapist to plan and conduct therapeutic activities for residents at the Montrose facility as part of a treatment team. You will take part in MDS, care plans, and initial assessments, while observing and documenting behavioral changes to support positive mental, physical, and social outcomes.

Minimum Qualifications

Reassignment: Current New York State Veterans Home at Montrose employee with permanent, contingent-permanent or 55-b/c status as a Recreation Therapist (SG14)

Permanent Transfer: Current New York State employee with one or more years of permanent, contingent-permanent, or 55 b/c service in a position allocated to Grade 12 or above, and eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law to Recreation Therapist

Open Competitive NY HELPS Qualifications

Either 1. a bachelor's degree in Therapeutic Recreation;

or 2. a bachelor's degree in Recreation, Physical Education or Adaptive Physical Education and one year of experience in planning and administering a therapeutic recreation program which involved developing and coordinating therapeutic recreational activities for geriatric patients/residents, individuals with developmental disabilities, individuals with psychiatric disabilities, individuals that are physically challenged, or individuals in treatment for chemical dependency;

The above posted salary ($60,333 - $75,869) includes a downstate adjustment of $4,150.
