The Recreation Therapist plans, organizes, and supervises recreational activities to promote healthy leisure, socialization, and skill development for youth in a human services setting.
- Develops diverse programs including arts, sports, and community outings aligned with treatment plans.
- Supervises recreation facilities ensuring safety, performs maintenance, and manages risk.
- Documents progress, participates in treatment team meetings, and provides feedback on service plans.
- Supervises activities for up to three youth and assists in event planning.
- Requires a bachelor’s degree in Therapeutic Recreation or related field and at least one year of youth recreation experience; OMH-funded roles need a CTRS credential.
- Must have CPR certification, valid NYS driver’s license, and may require Lifeguard certification.
- Skills include youth engagement, conflict resolution, de-escalation techniques, with a focus on ethical conduct.
