Job summary

Horizons Youth Services in Milwaukee Job Corps Center is seeking a full-time Recreation Specialist to encourage student participation in recreation programs during evenings and weekends at a residential trade school for young adults.

Responsibilities include supervising staff and students, planning and instructing a range of recreation activities, and monitoring programs for athletic and non-athletic participants.

Qualifications

• One year of experience required.
• Associates Degree preferred; Lifeguard certificate preferred.
• Valid State Drivers’ License.

We are seeking full-time Recreation Specialists to encourage our students to participate in recreation programs during the evenings and weekendsat our residential trade school for young adults.

Summary of duties:

Responsible for the supervision of staff and students to ensure a safe and secure operation of activities in the recreation/avocation area and supervises code of conduct in the development, implementation and maintenance of the behavior management system.

Other duties include:

• Assisting with the planning, implementation, and instruction of a variety of recreation activities, to include events, and field trips.
• Monitors activities for individuals and groups to include tournament competition and varsity and intramural competition for the athletic‑minded students.
• Provides oversight of plans for recreations activities for students not participating in athletic events.
• Supervises the development of the instructional programs to teach students new skills and to improve existing skills.

Qualifications/Experience:

Experience: One year of experience required.

Education: Associates Degree preferred, preferably in a related field. Lifeguard certificate preferred.
