Job summary

The City of Allen is seeking a part-time recreation attendant to provide friendly front desk service at athletic facilities. You will assist with class registrations, membership processing, and basic POS transactions while maintaining a welcoming environment for residents.

Experience with recreation software (ACTIVE Net) and cash handling is preferred. Evening, weekend, and holiday shifts may be required, with opportunities to support events and snack bar operations.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Greet members and provide facility information, including schedules and policies.
  • Register citizens for classes, camps and activities using membership software.
  • Process POS transactions and payments accurately.
  • Register citizens for memberships and maintain records.
  • Assist in opening/closing duties and reconcile cash and daily transactions.
  • Maintain facility cleanliness, safety, and reporting of issues.
  • Support special events and snack bar operations and marketing collateral.

The purpose of this position is to facilitate the provision of recreational activities for City citizens. This is accomplished by providing numerous forms of customer service at athletic facilities. Other duties may include operating the Visitor Center snack bar, registering citizens for classes, camps and activities, processing POS transactions, registering citizens for membership, assisting in opening and closing duties, maintaining the facility, providing various administrative services and interfacing with other City employees and citizens. This position does not provide direction to other employees.

  • Provides customer service by greeting members, answering and directing phone calls, providing facility information, including class schedules, hours of operation and policies, distributing equipment, supervising member activities within facility and by answering member questions and concerns.
  • Registers citizens for classes, camps and activities by operating membership software, entering data, taking payments, filing records and providing members with pertinent information regarding the facility and registration.
  • Processes POS transactions by operating ACTIVE Software, entering and recording sales transactions and taking payments.
  • Registers citizens for membership by operatingACTIVE software, ensuring necessary paperwork is completed and filed, entering information into computer system and accepting payments.
  • Assists in opening and closing facilities by organizing front desk work area, accounting for cash levels and printing reports for reconciliation of check/cash levels and record of daily transactions.
  • Maintains facility, interior and exterior, by reporting complaints and problems, making calls for repair, handling customer complaints where appropriate, identifying current risk and forecasting potential problems.
  • Provides various administrative services by ensuring safety in front lobby, assisting with development of brochures, signs and other marketing tools, maintaining adequate levels of supplies and marketing tools, assisting with special events and providing clerical based services.
Education & Experience

Work requires broad knowledge in a general professional or technical field. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:

  • High School diploma or equivalent with no prior relevant work experience

Conditions of Employment
  • Safe driving recors and a Valid Class C Drivers License
  • Clear criminal backgroung check and pre-employment drug screenFirst Aid/CPR Certification preferred
Hours/Work Schedule
  • Part-time position with variable scheduling, including potential evening, weekend, and holiday hours
  • Schedule may be modified if department needs arise.
  • May be required to work overtime if needed.

  • Recreation facility operations, specifically in an athletic or skate park setting.
  • Customer service practices in a community recreation environment.
  • POS systems and recreation software (e.g., ACTIVE Net) for registration and sales.
  • Cash handling, daily reconciliation, and front desk procedures.
  • Basic safety protocols for skate park and athletic facility environments.
  • Snack bar operations and basic food handling procedures.
  • City policies, emergency procedures, and service standards.

Physical Demands / Work Environment:
