Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Assist with planning and coordinating community recreation programs, including youth and adult sports, enrichment classes, and events.
  • Coordinate sports programs: recruit coaches, schedule practices, games, and officials; manage uniforms and medals distribution.
  • Promote programs to schools and community groups and provide information to public inquiries.
  • Order, inventory, clean, and store equipment and supplies.
  • Assist with publications promoting programs (brochures, calendars, flyers).
  • Maintain records and statistics for activities.
  • Assist with planning and operations of special events and rentals, including volunteers and staff.
  • Assist with facility rentals, set-ups, and basic maintenance.
  • Perform setup/breakdown for activities and assist with equipment and field operations.
  • Demonstrate ability to work independently and in a team, meet deadlines, and multi-task.

Job description

Assists Parks & Recreation Director and Deputy Director with all aspects of planning, organizing, and coordinating community recreation programs for youth, teens, and/or adults, including sports, enrichment programs, special events, and camps. The Rec Aide will also be responsible for assisting with other aspects of Parks & Rec activities including concessions, facility and park rentals.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assists Parks and Recreation staff in the development and implementation of community recreation programs, including youth and adult sports, enrichment classes, summer camps, facility rentals, concession stand, and special events.
  • Assist with coordinating sports programs, acquiring coaches, assigning practice times, scheduling games and officials, ordering and distributing uniforms and medals, creating and distributing schedules.
  • Promotes interest and provides information regarding recreation programs to school officials, other recreation officials, community service groups, other departments, etc.
  • Orders, inventories, cleans, and stores equipment and supplies.
  • Responds to public inquiries about recreational programs made by telephone, email, socialmedia, or at events.
  • Assists with the development, publication, and distribution of a variety of brochures, calendars, letters, posters, flyers, and other related communications promoting recreation programs.
  • Help maintain related records and statistics for activities.
  • Assist with the planning and operations of special events, including attending events when needed, purchasing supplies and secures volunteers and/or paid staff for special events.
  • May be responsible for building, park, pavilion and rental coverage, including but not limited to: room/program set-ups, light cleaning, opening and closing restrooms, running concession operations, and assisting with the rental program.
  • Handy with tools and able to perform minor repairs, adjustments, and general maintenance tasks as needed.
  • Performs physical setup and breakdown for athletic programs, special events, facility rentals, and other recreation activities, including moving and arranging tables, chairs, sports equipment, goals, bases, field equipment, and other program materials.
  • Possesses a working knowledge of common recreational sports, including basic rules, equipment, terminology, and game operations, with the ability to learn additional sports and programs as needed.
  • Must be physically capable of performing repeated lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, bending, and moving of equipment and supplies associated with recreation programs and facility operations.
  • This position will work a combination of weekdays, evening and weekend hours up to 28hours/week. Hours will be dependent on program/rental schedule.
  • Performs other related work as assigned.
DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
  • Graduation from an accredited High School or equivalent.
  • Valid state drivers’ license or state-issued ID.
Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Passion for Parks & Recreation philosophy, planning, and administration.
  • Excellent communication skills (oral and written).
  • Knowledge of the equipment, facilities, operations, and techniques used in a comprehensive community recreation program.
  • Ability to develop, coordinate, and direct varied activities involved in a community recreation program.
  • Skill in operation of listed tools and equipment.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective and courteous working relationships with employees, supervisors, other agencies, participants, instructors, community leaders, and the general public.
  • Ideal Applicant is a self-starter and will take initiative to develop new programs and activities to engage the public.
  • Must demonstrate exceptional organization skills and be flexible with the ability to multi-task.
  • Must be able to work independently and in a team atmosphere.
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment and meet various deadlines.
  • Ability to plan and supervise the work of volunteers.
  • Database & Customer Relations Management Software skills preferred.
  • Ability to collaborate over cloud-based software like Microsoft 365 preferred.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds required.
