Job summary

East Liverpool City Hospital in Ohio is seeking a qualified Recreation/Activity Therapist to support the geriatric behavioral health program. You will plan and conduct therapeutic recreational activities to aid rehabilitation, promote social interaction, and enhance quality of life for patients during hospitalization.

The role requires a Bachelor's or Master's in Recreation Therapy or related field (or an Associate with COTA), current state licensure, and at least one year of related experience;

• Current state licensure required.
• At least 1 year experience in behavioral health, rehab, or SNF preferred.

Responsibilities

Conducts therapeutic recreational activities within the geriatric behavioral health program to facilitate rehabilitation of the physically and mentally disabled. The Recreation/Activity Therapist directs patient participation in selected activities such as games, social activities, sports or music to create an atmosphere of sociability, to provide a means of creative expression and to facilitate the learning skills for recreating during hospitalization and after discharge in the community. Creates an environment that allows the patient to explore his/her own potential, cultivate positive morale and minimize distress of illness.

Qualifications

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, TRAINING

• 1. Bachelors or Masters Degree in Recreation Therapy, Art Therapy, occupational therapist (OT), or Expressive Arts Therapy OR Associates Degree in occupational therapy assistant (COTA).
• 2. Current and active state licensure as required by degree.
• 3. Minimum one (1) year experience in Behavioral Healthcare, rehabilitative or SNF setting preferred.
