Job summary

Bristol Bay Area Health Corporation (BBAHC) is seeking a Recovery Support Registered Nurse in Alaska to provide compassionate care to patients in recovery from substance use disorders. You will assess, plan, educate, and coordinate with a multidisciplinary team to support holistic treatment and sustained recovery. Qualifications include an RN license in the U.S.

and a BSN, with 2+ years in behavioral health preferred. BLS is required; EHR experience is a plus.

Qualifications

  • Current and valid RN license in the United States.
  • BSN or equivalent nursing degree.
  • Minimum of 2 years of clinical nursing experience, preferably in behavioral health or addiction recovery.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Strong knowledge of substance use disorders and patient-centered care.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive nursing assessments to evaluate patients' physical and mental health during recovery.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor individualized care plans in collaboration with healthcare teams and patients.
  • Provide education and counseling to patients and families about recovery processes, medication management, and health maintenance.
  • Coordinate with social workers, therapists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure integrated and continuous care.
  • Monitor patients for signs of relapse or complications and intervene promptly to address health concerns.
  • Document patient progress, treatment plans, and clinical observations accurately and timely in accordance with regulatory standards.
  • Advocate for patient needs and facilitate access to community resources and support services.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development and training to stay current with best practices in recovery support nursing.

About the Role:

The Recovery Support Registered Nurse plays a critical role in providing compassionate and comprehensive care to individuals recovering from substance use disorders and other behavioral health challenges. This position focuses on supporting patients through their recovery journey by delivering nursing care, monitoring health status, and coordinating with multidisciplinary teams to ensure holistic treatment. The nurse will serve as a vital link between patients, families, and healthcare providers, facilitating education, advocacy, and emotional support. By implementing evidence-based practices and personalized care plans, the Recovery Support Registered Nurse helps improve patient outcomes and promotes sustained recovery. Ultimately, this role contributes to enhancing the quality of life for patients while supporting their long-term health and wellness goals.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Current and valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in the United States.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or equivalent nursing degree.
  • Minimum of 2 years of clinical nursing experience, preferably in behavioral health, addiction recovery, or related fields.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Strong knowledge of substance use disorders, recovery principles, and patient-centered care.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Certification in Addiction Nursing (e.g., Certified Addictions Registered Nurse - CARN).
  • Experience working in outpatient or community-based recovery support settings.
  • Advanced certifications such as Psychiatric-Mental Health Nursing (PMH-BC).
  • Training in motivational interviewing and trauma-informed care.
  • Familiarity with electronic health records (EHR) systems and data management.
