Job summary

Community Medical Services (CMS) is seeking a Substance Abuse Peer Support Specialist to assist patients in recovery from opioids and other substances. You will use personal recovery experience to provide guidance, coaching, and ongoing support in outpatient settings across CMS locations. Occasional weekend/holiday shifts may be required.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Associate degree in Human Services, Counseling or Psychology preferred.
• Peer Support or RSS training certificate required.
• Experience with substance abuse, mental illness, or general mental health required.
• Valid Driver License and clean driving record (39 months).
• Knowledge of de-escalation, crisis intervention and safety techniques.

Responsibilities

• Assist clients in identifying coping techniques and increasing social support networks.
• Maintain confidentiality and adhere to professional standards.
• Draw from personal recovery experience to support clients.
• Provide clinical support including assessments to special populations.
• Promote harm reduction and recovery in group settings.
• Travel up to 25% to CMS clinic locations and events (reimbursed).
• Communicate CMS program and assessment information to community-based providers.
