Job summary

Center Point DAAC is seeking a Peer Support Specialist to deliver individual and group recovery services in alignment with Medi-Cal guidelines. The role emphasizes non-clinical support, coordination, and education while avoiding psychotherapy or clinical assessment.

The candidate must hold CalMHSA certification, have lived recovery experience, and maintain ongoing ethics training. Travel between program sites is required, with a commitment to accurate documentation and collaborative teamwork.

Qualifications

• Current Medi-Cal Peer Support Specialist Certification through CalMHSA is required.
• A registered or certified AOD/SUD counselor credential does not meet this requirement.
• Lived experience with recovery from SUD or mental health conditions is required.
• Willingness to share your recovery experience appropriately in the course of the work.
• Agreement to abide by Medi-Cal Code of Ethics for Peer Support Specialists in California is required.
• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Valid California Driver License with acceptable driving record and proof of insurance if driving for work.
• Maintain CalMHSA certification with 20 hours CE every two years (6 hours on law/ethics).
• Ability to serve as a mandated reporter under California law.

Responsibilities

• Provide individual and group Peer Support Services per each client’s treatment plan.
• Build recovery-oriented relationships that promote hope and engagement in treatment.
• Share lived recovery experience appropriately while maintaining boundaries.
• Reinforce coping skills, emotional regulation, and recovery concepts.
• Assist clients in identifying personal recovery goals and progress.
• Support clients during admissions, discharges, and transitions between care levels.
• Encourage participation in treatment services and community recovery resources.
• Collaborate with counselors, care coordinators, and treatment team members.
• Complete accurate Medi-Cal compliant documentation in the EHR on the service date.
