Job summary

Spokane County is seeking a Peer Support Specialist to provide recovery-based services to adults and youth with mental health and/or substance use challenges. You will advocate for client choice and assist in developing recovery plans, drawing on your own lived experience to inspire hope and resilience.

Responsibilities include connecting clients with housing, transportation, and community resources, coaching on coping skills, and documenting progress.

Qualifications

• Self-identify as a current or past recipient of mental health and/or substance abuse services, and has been active in recovery for a minimum of two years.
• High school diploma or GED required; equivalent experience considered.
• Possession of a Peer Counselor certification or DOH certification within specified timelines.

Responsibilities

• Provide recovery-based services and advocate for client in daily living.
• Articulate recovery stories to support clients facing barriers.
• Assist in developing and implementing individual recovery plans and goals.
• Connect clients to community resources and coordinate with teams for housing, transportation, and employment.
• Promote self-advocacy, resilience, and empowerment; maintain confidentiality.
