Job description

SpaceX was founded under the belief that a future where humanity is out exploring the stars is fundamentally more exciting than one where we are not. Today SpaceX is actively developing the technologies to make this possible, with the ultimate goal of enabling human life on Mars.
RECEIVING INSPECTOR (STARFALL)
SpaceX is seeking exceptional employees to enable the success of its Starfall, Dragon, and Starship programs at the Bloomfield, Connecticut site. The Receiving Inspector will receive, inspect, kit, and ship the textiles, hardware, and related materials that the soft goods shop consumes and produces. This hybrid role combines receiving inspection, inventory control, and shipping, including flight-critical and ordnance shipments. This role will have a close feedback loop with engineering, production, and the greater SpaceX team in our pursuit of making access to and from space as safe and reliable as possible.
Responsibilities

  • Unpack incoming shipments; count, weigh, and measure against packing lists and bills of lading; transact the receipts, print routing labels, and place unverified or nonconforming material on hold/quarantine

  • Review quality documentation (certifications, specifications, certificates of conformance) for completeness; upload and maintain receiving records
  • Inspect incoming materials using visual methods and calibrated tools (scales, micrometers, calipers as required), approve or reject items and document non-conformances
  • Perform tension testing of thread and other textiles per procedure
  • Fill requests for inventory from work orders: pick, kit, and deliver material to the correct shop-floor location, maintaining lot/serial traceability and BOM accuracy; communicate material-preparedness status so production is not delayed
  • Put away material in labeled bins and racks; de-kit unused material; receive finished goods from the floor; and keep physical locations and electronic scan locations accurate
  • Control shelf-life lots where required
  • Perform rotating cycle counts and inventory audits; reconcile discrepancies; and review location-accuracy / stagnant-inventory reports
  • Prepare, pack, label, weigh, and stage outgoing shipments, including flight-critical next-flight-out (NFO) and supplier returns; coordinate carrier pickup; maintain shipping-supply stock
  • Handle ordnance and dangerous-goods shipments; obtain and maintain required certifications
  • Interface with production, engineering, purchasing, and carriers to resolve shortages, damages, and receipt discrepancies; create issue tickets as required
