Job summary

Clean Harbors Bartow, FL Facility is seeking a Receiving Chemist Intern for Summer 2027 to join our safety-focused team. This in-person internship at the Bartow site supports environmental, energy, and industrial services with a May 17th or May 24th 2027 start and August end. Pay is $20/hour and interns work alongside professionals on real projects.

Interns gain hands-on exposure, safety briefings, and practical skills while supporting ongoing operations and QA/QC processes under supervision.

Qualifications

• Pursuing chemistry degree at an accredited college/university.
• Forklift experience preferred but not required.
• Strong interest in environmental services industry.
• Ability to lift 50+ pounds.

Responsibilities

• Ensure Health and Safety is the top priority by following safe work practices.
• Receive containers, verify counts/sizes, and code waste for disposal processing.
• Sample incoming drums and perform basic analyses following procedures.
• Sort batteries and consolidate alkaline batteries for disposal.
• Code drums for routing and billing per protocol.
• Assign proper disposal or outbound profiles for drums.
• Move drums from staging area to storage areas.
• Complete paperwork and ensure QA/QC compliance.
• Maintain a safe environment compliant with OSHA and company policies.

This internship provides students with the opportunity to gain hands‑on experience while supporting real projects that contribute to business priorities across our environmental, energy, and industrial services operations. We are searching for a reliable and team-oriented individual with an excellent commitment to safety to join our growing team during Summer 2027!

This internship is an in‑person opportunity based at our Bartow, FL facility and is not eligible for remote work. Interns will work alongside experienced professionals, gain exposure to our industry, and develop practical skills that support their academic and early career goals.

Start dates for our Summer 2027 Internship Program are May 17th or May 24th of 2027. Internships will run through the summer and end in August.

Key Responsibilities

• Ensuring that Health and Safety is the number one priority by complying with all safe work practices, policies, and processes and acting in a safe manner at all times;
• Receives all containers, verifies counts and sizes of received loads and properly codes all waste for disposal processing;
• Samples all incoming drums and performs basic analysis of samples following prescribed procedures;
• Sorts through batteries and consolidates all the alkaline batteries for disposal;
• Confirms that all drums are properly and accurately coded for routing and billing according to protocol;
• Ensures all drums are assigned the proper disposal process and/or outbound profile;
• Moves drums from staging area to proper facility storage areas;
• Completes all associated paperwork and ensures that all work meets applicable QA/QC guidelines; and
• Maintains a safe working environment that complies with all applicable OSHA regulations as well as all applicable company Health & Safety and Compliance protocols.

What does it take to intern with Clean Harbors?

• Currently pursuing a degree in chemistry or other relevant field at an accredited college or university;
• Forklift experience preferred but not required;
• Strong interest in learning about the environmental services industry;
• Ability to work collaboratively in a professional team environment;
• Strong communication, organization, and problem‑solving skills;
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office or other relevant technical tools;
• Ability to lift 50 or more pounds.
