Job summary

Commercial Metals Company in Houston, TX, is seeking an operator to run rebar fabrication equipment and production machinery. You will support a safety-forward environment, cross-train across machines, and assist with loading materials while maintaining a clean, efficient workspace.

Ideal candidates have 1+ year in a heavy industrial setting, the ability to read technical manuals, and can work overtime as required. High school diploma or GED is preferred.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 1 year in a heavy industrial environment preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical documents and service manuals.
  • Must be able to operate fabrication machines safely without supervision.
  • Ability to perform measurements with tape measures and calipers.

Responsibilities

  • Operate rebar fabrication equipment (shears, benders, cranes, forklift, threaders, welders).
  • Run production machines per established procedures.
  • Support CMC Safety Programs and uphold Safety culture.
  • Crosstrain on multiple machines and attend equipment trainings.
  • Assist loading/unloading fabricated rebar on trailers and stock material.
  • Keep work area and equipment clean and orderly.
  • Perform additional duties as needed.

What You’ll Do
  • Operate rebar fabrication equipment, such as shears, benders, cranes, forklift, threaders, forging, welders, etc.
  • Operate production machines in accordance with established procedures and guidelines
  • Participates in the CMC Safety Programs and proactively upholds the CMC Safety Culture
  • Crosstrain on multiple machines
  • Attend training regarding applicable equipment
  • Assist in loading fabricated rebar on trailers and unloading stock material from trailers
  • Maintain the work area and equipment in a clean orderly condition
  • Perform additional duties as needed
What You’ll Need
  • Minimum 1 year working with heavy industrial environment experience preferred but not required
  • Ability to operate fabrication machines in a safe manner without supervision
  • Must be able to read technical documents and service manuals
  • Able and willing to cross train as required
  • Possess knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures in the industrial field
  • Ability to perform measurements with tape measures/calipers, etc
  • Ability to use and understand basic linear measurements (i.e. feet, inches, decimals, and metric system)
  • Must be able to work outside under all weather conditions to include working in the heat and cold weather
  • Follow OSHA, EPA, and company safety policies, rules, and regulations
  • Possess a strong work ethic and practice safe working habits
  • Able to work overtime as business requires
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds, climb ladders and steps, work outside under all weather conditions when needed
  • Stand for long periods of time
  • Excellent communication skills, in both written and verbal form are necessary to be successful in this role
  • Bilingual Spanish preferred
Your Education
  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent experience preferred
