Job summary

Circle City Rebar in Indianapolis, IN is seeking a Rebar Detailer/Estimator to own a project from bid to placement drawings. You will read structural drawings, prepare takeoffs and bids in aSa, and then convert awarded work into shop and placement drawings while coordinating with the plant and engineering teams.

This role reports to the Head of Operations and may involve some Chicago-based work. Ideal candidates have 3+ years in rebar detailing or estimating, knowledge of ACI/CRSI standards, and

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Read and interpret drawings to prepare material takeoffs for reinforcing steel.

• Track bid due dates and maintain the sales/pipeline log.
• Review contracts against estimates and flag discrepancies before work begins.

• Maintain up-to-date pricing for materials and accessories.
• Produce placing drawings and bar lists per ACI/CRSI standards.
• Submit shop/placing drawings for engineer approval and manage RFIs.

• Identify conflicts or constructability issues in reinforcing details.

POSITION SUMMARY

Circle City Rebar (CCR) is looking for a Rebar Detailer/Estimator to own a job from the bid all the way through to placing drawings. This is a combined role for someone who can read a set of structural drawings, put together an accurate takeoff and bid, and then turn that same job into shop and placement drawings once we've won it. You'll work directly in our estimating platform (aSa), coordinate with the plant on fabrication needs, and be a key point of contact for customers and engineers on submittals and RFIs. This role reports to our Head of Operations. We'd prefer someone based out of Indianapolis, but we're open to the right person working out of Chicago as well.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES — ESTIMATING

• Read and interpret structural drawings, specifications, and project addenda to prepare complete material takeoffs for reinforcing steel and accessories.
• Prepare accurate, competitive bids and proposals using CCR's estimating platform (aSa), applying CRSI standard weights and industry-standard waste factors.
• Track bid due dates, follow up on outstanding proposals, and maintain the sales/pipeline log.
• Review awarded contracts against the original estimate and flag scope, quantity, or pricing discrepancies before work begins.
• Work with the Head of Operations to price change orders, extras, and back-charges.
• Maintain up-to-date pricing on mill bar, epoxy-coated bar, Grade 60/80 material, and accessories.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES — DETAILING

• Produce placing drawings and bar lists from approved contract documents, in accordance with ACI/CRSI standards and project specifications.
• Submit shop/placing drawings for engineer approval and manage the RFI and resubmittal process to keep jobs on schedule.
• Coordinate bar lists with the plant/production team to sequence fabrication and delivery around job-site needs.
• Identify and resolve conflicts, congestion, or constructability issues in reinforcing details, including mechanical splice opportunities in congested applications.
• Maintain organized, accurate job files (drawings, submittals, RFIs, and revisions) for each active project.
• Support field and plant staff with questions on placement details as jobs progress.

QUALIFICATIONS

• 3+ years of experience in rebar detailing, estimating, or a closely related structural/construction role (fabricator, supplier, or GC/subcontractor environment preferred).
• Working knowledge of ACI 318 and CRSI standards for reinforcing steel placement and detailing.
• Ability to read and interpret structural drawings, specifications, and shop drawings independently.
• Proficiency with detailing/estimating software (aSa experience a strong plus; will train the right candidate).
• Strong math and quantity takeoff skills; comfortable working against deadlines on multiple concurrent bids/projects.
• Clear written and verbal communication for coordinating with customers, engineers, and internal production staff.

PREFERRED

• CRSI certification (or willingness to pursue one) such as the Certified Rebar Placement Inspector or Design/Detailing certifications.
• Familiarity with rebar fabrication shop processes (cutting, bending, epoxy coating) and shop scheduling.
• Prior experience on industrial, cryogenic, or other specialty reinforcing projects.

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• Primarily an office/desk-based role at the Indianapolis facility, with periodic time on the shop floor to coordinate with production.
• Occasional site visits may be required for field verification or customer coordination.
• Standard office equipment use (computer, dual monitors, phone) for extended periods.
