  • Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative discipline.
  • At least five years of professional experience in healthcare consulting or research.
  • Advanced proficiency in R for data management, analysis, and reporting.
  • Experience with R tools: tidyverse, data.table, ggplot2, and R Markdown or Quarto.
  • Experience managing and analyzing large administrative healthcare claims databases.
  • Familiarity with observational study design and HEOR statistical methods.

Responsibilities

  • Write, test, and maintain R code for cohort creation, data management, and statistical analysis.
  • Translate study protocols and SAPs into reproducible analytic implementations.
  • Manage and analyze complex longitudinal healthcare data including claims and EHR data.
  • Review and document analytic code for accuracy and reproducibility.
  • Develop reusable code and standardized workflows to improve efficiency and quality.
  • Contribute to study protocols, client deliverables, and dissemination materials.
  • Conduct background research to inform study design and interpretation.
  • Collaborate across the research lifecycle with researchers and clients.

About Medicus Economics

Medicus Economics is a boutique, independently owned health economics and outcomes research (HEOR) consulting firm serving the life sciences industry. Our research is published in peer-reviewed journals, presented at scientific conferences, and included in submissions to health technology assessment agencies worldwide.

Position Description

We are seeking an experienced R analyst who can independently implement claims- and EHR-based HEOR studies, apply methodological judgment, review others’ work, and communicate effectively with colleagues and clients. This hands-on role combines technical analytics, research, and consulting across study design, analytic specifications, implementation, quality assurance, and dissemination. It offers substantial ownership of analytic work and close collaboration with experienced researchers and clients throughout the study lifecycle.

Location

The position is based in Boston, MA, with an expected hybrid schedule of approximately two days per week in the office. We will also consider highly qualified candidates for fully remote work within the U.S.

Responsibilities
  • Write, test, and maintain R code for cohort creation, data management, and statistical analysis
  • Translate study protocols and statistical analysis plans into detailed, reproducible analytic implementations
  • Manage and analyze complex longitudinal healthcare data, including enrollment records, medical and pharmacy claims, and EHR data
  • Review and document analytic code to ensure accuracy and reproducibility
  • Develop and apply reusable code and standardized workflows that improve analytic efficiency and quality
  • Contribute to study protocols, project reports, client deliverables, slide decks, manuscripts, and other dissemination materials
  • Conduct background research to inform study design and interpretation
  • Collaborate across the research lifecycle, contributing to project management, proposal development, and client communications
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative discipline
  • At least five years of relevant professional experience, including experience in healthcare consulting or research
  • Advanced proficiency in R, including data management, statistical analysis, visualization, reproducible reporting, and efficient processing of large datasets
  • Facility with commonly used R tools and packages, such as the tidyverse, data.table, ggplot2, and R Markdown or Quarto
  • Demonstrated experience managing and analyzing large administrative healthcare claims databases
  • Working knowledge of observational study design and statistical methods commonly used in HEOR
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Sustained attention to detail and high standards of quality
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience managing and analyzing EHR data
  • Proficiency in Base SAS, the SAS macro language, SAS/STAT, and PROC SQL
  • Experience with large-scale data integration, distributed computing, or cloud-based analytics environments, such as Spark or AWS
  • Experience using Git/GitHub and platforms such as Posit Workbench in collaborative, reproducible development workflows
  • Advanced training or substantial applied experience in observational study design, causal inference, or statistical methods
