Job description

Summary

The Real Time Trader II ensures that APS customers are provided the most economical sources of energy by analyzing real-time market conditions and making decisions to purchase from other companies, generate internally, or sell to other utilities and marketers. Markets excess resources to other utilities, marketers or Energy Imbalance Market on a real time basis. Personally implement specific marketing strategies to negotiate sales and purchases on a real time basis to minimize APS bottom-line cost. Understand and execute all trading activities in compliance with Regulatory and Reliability standards and protocols.

Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in a quantitative, technical, or business-related field (e.g., engineering, mathematics, economics, finance, accounting, business administration)
  • And three (3) years related experience or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience, which may include hands-on work in energy markets, system operations, or a related analytical environment.
  • Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to analyze information and make sound decisions using quantitative reasoning.
  • Proficiency with computer systems, databases, software applications, and related technology tools.
  • Ability to perform effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic operating environment and work rotating shifts as required.
  • Must successfully qualify on the gas desk within six months of hire.
Major Accountabilities

1) Continually project system load requirements and commit the most economical APS resources to meet customer requirements. Analyze daily system operations and take necessary follow-up actions to resolve problems.

2) Continually monitor and analyze on-line generation to ensure sufficient system operating reserves.

3) Remain proficient in all the skills necessary to operate any of the positions for Real Time operations. Share acquired skills with teammates to promote an environment of continual learning. Communicate to management the need for additional support and/or training when circumstances or skill sets warrant.

4) Analyze real-time market conditions; negotiate and purchase the most economical energy sources for the APS system.

5) Ensure interconnected system and associated power pool operating agreements, criteria and guidelines are met.

6) Provide complete and accurate documentation of all transactions, commitments, counterparty and Balancing Authority communications and events relating to the generation and marketing of APS Energy Resources. Ensures timely and accurate communications flow.

7) Personally develop and present real-time marketing strategies to Real Time leadership.

8) Represent APS and Resource Management in a professional manner. Demonstrate the ability to interact with other business units, and other companies in a respectful and positive manner.

9) Own the safe, reliable, and compliant culture of the shift. Utilize APS tools, including Human Performance tools, the Corrective Action Program (CAP), and anchor work practices that ensure accurate and timely communication. When checklists are used for tasks, verify correct use and completion.

10) Ensure all aspects of the work environment are met, including safe and compliant work practices, technical proficiency, respectful behavior, positive morale, training of others, crew harmony, and effective communication. Own the logs and ensure they reflect what occurred and what decisions were made on the shift.
