Job summary

IPG Defense, a stand-alone IPG Photonics unit based in Huntsville, AL, seeks a mid-level Software Engineer specializing in Computer Vision to advance real-time image processing for beam control, target acquisition, and stabilization on laser defense platforms.

This role blends optics, sensors, and software, with opportunities to work on embedded GPU pipelines and cross-disciplinary collaboration. Junior or senior candidates may be considered based on experience.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related discipline.
• 3–7 years of experience in real-time computer vision or image processing.
• Proficiency in C++ and Python, with OpenCV on Linux.
• Experience with real-time, low-latency video processing pipelines.
• Experience with GPU acceleration (CUDA) for latency-sensitive applications.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement computer-vision algorithms for object detection, optical flow, and target tracking.
• Develop tracking and state-estimation pipelines (e.g., Kalman filtering) for maneuvering targets.
• Integrate vision pipelines with gimbals, sensors, and beam-steering hardware.
• Optimize GPU-accelerated code on embedded platforms (NVIDIA Jetson) using CUDA and TensorRT.
• Process EO/IR imagery to support laser targeting and feedback control.
