Job summary

Birch Behavioral School in New Hampshire is seeking a Reading/Writing Specialist Consultant to support K-6 learners. The role focuses on delivering engaging reading and writing instruction aligned with NH state standards.

The candidate will provide materials, on-site consultation at least twice a month, and collaborate with district staff to ensure inclusive, goal-driven student progress. A valid teaching license and specialist endorsements are required, plus 3 years of classroom experience.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in reading or writing is required.
• NH Education Certification required.
• Reading and Writing Specialist Certification required.
• Minimum 3 years of K-6 teaching experience.
• Valid driver’s license required.

Responsibilities

• Provides materials and curriculum that are engaging and age appropriate for students (K-6).
• In person consultation on-site minimum 2x per month- required.
• Regular and predictable attendance and presence at respective center is an essential requirement of position.
• Provides learning experiences in the reading and writing guided by the NH state curriculum guidelines and district standards and requirements, while creating an environment that is conducive to a student’s learning and involvement.
• Promotes a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to individualized and small group instruction, and student learning.
• Develops lesson plans and instructional materials and translates lesson plans into learning experiences so as to best utilize the available time for instruction.
• Work collaboratively with district level staff to review and revise science curriculum and coordinate ordering and purchase of materials.
• Collaborate with classroom teachers and special education staff to understand students’ needs.
• A qualified applicant will be knowledgeable in the content area standards and demonstrate a commitment to bringing learning to life for students of all ability levels.
• Oversight of reading and writing instruction.
• Facilitation and supervision of a reading support program.
• Facilitation of reading and writing materials and instruction based on school and state standards.
• Other duties as directed.
• Up to 6 hours monthly
