Job summary

Ampact administers Reading Corps, a nationwide AmeriCorps tutoring program, placing tutors in schools to support student readers. You’ll deliver proven activities, receive coaching, and work in coordinated sessions each school day.

As a Reading Tutor, you’ll help students build reading skills, track progress with an onsite coach, and participate in ongoing training. Join a strong mission to improve literacy nationwide.

Qualifications

  • Dependable with a history of good attendance.
  • Able to follow instructions and make improvements based on feedback.
  • Proficient in basic computer skills (email and navigating online).
  • Fluent in English for speaking, reading, and writing.

Job description

Position Summary

Students who read have the power to succeed, and we’re on a mission to make sure every student is a strong reader!

Join Reading Corps as a Reading Tutor and you’ll spend your days at a local school helping students improve their skills. We’ll train you to deliver proven activities and coach you every step of the way!

How does it work? Every school day you’ll see pairs of students for 20 minutes of reading practice. When your time together is up, you’ll help your students return to their classroom(s) and pick up your next pair for tutoring. You’ll repeat until all your students are served.

With the extra attention and support, incredible growth happens. As your students build their skills and confidence, you’ll be there to encourage, celebrate, and cheer them on!

Essential Qualifications

By the time you begin your service with Reading Corps, you should be:

  • Dependable and have a history of good attendance
  • Able to follow instructions and make improvements based on feedback
  • Proficient in basic computer skills (like email and navigating online)
  • Fluent in English for speaking, reading, and writing
  • 18 years of age or older with a high school diploma or equivalent
  • A citizen, national, or lawful permanent resident of the United States
  • Able to successfully complete abackground check
Compensation & Perks Package

Full-timeAmeriCorps members receive a paycheck (stipend) every two weeks.
