POSITION SUMMARY:

The Tutor provides academic instruction and support to help students develop essential skills, build confidence, and achieve their educational goals. This position involves planning and delivering engaging instruction tailored to individual student needs, monitoring academic progress, and creating a positive and supportive learning environment. The Tutor collaborates with teachers, administrators, and families to promote student success while maintaining a safe, respectful, and inclusive learning environment aligned with Nelson County Public Schools' educational goals and policies.

This is a part-time, hourly position requiring approximately 15–25 hours per week. The specific work schedule will be determined by the building principal based on student and school needs.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Works with students individually or in small groups to reinforce classroom instruction and strengthen academic skills.
• Prepares for classes assigned, and shows written evidence of preparation upon request of immediate supervisor. Daily teaching objectives shall: (a) identify the learning expected of students; (b) keep students engaged in learning tasks; (c) allow the teacher to spend a majority of time in direct teaching activities.(d) provide for assessment of student learning.
• Adapts tutoring strategies and activities to meet students' individual learning needs, abilities, and interests.
• Assesses the progress of students and reports to students and parents at appropriate times, evaluating students' work promptly and constructively and certifying whether each student has mastered applicable learning objectives.
• Fosters a safe, welcoming, and respectful learning environment where students feel supported and motivated.
• Prepares engaging tutoring activities and instructional materials aligned with student needs and school learning objectives and curriculum.
• Assesses student understanding, provides constructive feedback, and communicates progress or concerns to appropriate school staff.
• Helps students develop confidence, effective study habits, problem-solving skills, and a positive attitude toward learning.
• Works closely with teachers, administrators, and other school personnel to support student achievement.
• Completes required documentation, assists with student progress, and other records as requested.
• Follows school division policies and procedures related to student supervision, behavior, safety, and confidentiality.
• Maintains positive relationships with students, families, and colleagues while serving as a positive role model.
• Attends applicable training sessions and meetings as requested by school administration.
• Follows all applicable Nelson County Public Schools policies, procedures, and professional standards.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
