Job summary

Ampact's Reading Corps is seeking Reading Tutors to work in local schools, delivering proven reading activities and coaching students to improve skills. You’ll tutor pairs for 20 minutes, then rotate to the next group, with coaching from an on-site mentor.

We are hiring for the 2026-27 school year (Aug 2026–Jun 2027). Full-time AmeriCorps stipends are provided; part-time roles at 25 hours/week are also available. Join our mission and help students build confidence and reading proficiency.

Qualifications

  • Dependable with a history of good attendance.
  • Able to follow instructions and improve based on feedback.
  • Proficient with basic computer skills (email and navigating online).
  • Fluent in English (speaking, reading, and writing).
  • 18+ with a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Citizen, national, or lawful permanent resident of the United States.
  • Ability to successfully complete a background check.

Responsibilities

  • Be a caring adult focused on helping children thrive.
  • Lead tutoring sessions and follow a schedule to ensure students receive support.
  • Track student progress and meet regularly with the school's on-site coach.

Job description

Position Summary

Students who read have the power to succeed, and we’re on a mission to make sure every student is a strong reader!

Join Reading Corps as a Reading Tutor and you’ll spend your days at a local school helping students improve their skills. We’ll train you to deliver proven activities and coach you every step of the way!

How does it work? Every school day you’ll see pairs of students for 20 minutes of reading practice. When your time together is up, you’ll help your students return to their classroom(s) and pick up your next pair for tutoring. You’ll repeat until all your students are served.

With the extra attention and support, incredible growth happens. As your students build their skills and confidence, you’ll be there to encourage, celebrate, and cheer them on!

Schedule

We are currently hiring for the 2026-27 school year. Positions run August 2026-June 2027.

  • 35 Hours per week (less in weeks with holidays or school release days)
  • Daytime hours (correspond with school start and end times)
  • Monday-Friday (no weekends)
  • Time off on holidays and school release days

Part-time positions are also available at 25 hours per week!
