Job summary

Ampact is seeking a Reading Tutor in Gilbert, Iowa. In this role, you will help students develop their reading skills in a supportive environment and track their progress. You will receive training and ongoing support to guide your tutoring sessions.

This position requires dependability, basic computer skills, and fluency in English. Candidates must be at least 18 with a high school diploma or equivalent. Full-time members receive a stipend every two weeks along with various education awards.

Position Summary

Students who read have the power to succeed, and we’re on a mission to make sure every student is a strong reader!

Join Reading Corps as a Reading Tutor and you’ll spend your days at a local school helping students improve their skills. We’ll train you to deliver proven activities and coach you every step of the way!

How does it work? Every school day you’ll see pairs of students for 20 minutes of reading practice. When your time together is up, you’ll help your students return to their classroom(s) and pick up your next pair for tutoring. You’ll repeat until all your students are served.

With the extra attention and support, incredible growth happens. As your students build their skills and confidence, you’ll be there to encourage, celebrate, and cheer them on!

Core Responsibilities
  • Be a caring adult who's focused on helping students thrive.
  • Lead tutoring sessions and follow a schedule to ensure students receive support.
  • Track student progress and meet regularly with the school's onsite coach.
  • Conduct skill assessments and enter student scores into data software.
  • Commit to your own growth through coaching and training.
  • Share your experience with the community.
Essential Qualifications

By the time you begin your service with Reading Corps, you should be:

  • Dependable and have a history of good attendance.
  • Able to follow instructions and make improvements based on feedback.
  • Proficient in basic computer skills (like email and navigating online).
  • Fluent in English for speaking, reading, and writing.
  • 18 years of age or older with a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • A citizen, national, or lawful permanent resident of the United States.
  • Able to successfully complete a background check.
