Job summary

Reading Corps is seeking a Reading Tutor in Centerville, IA to work with students at local schools. You’ll deliver proven activities, coach students, and help them progress in reading, with daily 20‑minute tutoring blocks and on-site coaching for guidance.

The AmeriCorps role includes training, background checks, and a structured schedule. Strong English skills and dependability are essential for success in this program.

Qualifications

  • Dependable and maintain a good attendance record.

  • Fluent in English speaking, reading, and writing.
  • 18+ with HS diploma or equivalent; US citizen or eligible.

Position Summary

Students who read have the power to succeed, and we’re on a mission to make sure every student is a strong reader!

Join Reading Corps as a Reading Tutor and you’ll spend your days at a local school helping students improve their skills. We’ll train you to deliver proven activities and coach you every step of the way!

How does it work? Every school day you’ll see pairs of students for 20 minutes of reading practice. When your time together is up, you’ll help your students return to their classroom(s) and pick up your next pair for tutoring. You’ll repeat until all your students are served.

With the extra attention and support, incredible growth happens. As your students build their skills and confidence, you’ll be there to encourage, celebrate, and cheer them on!

Essential Qualifications
