Position Duration: Expected to Continue Until May 02, 2025

Location: AUSTIN, TX

Purpose

The position of Reading Tutor is responsible for serving as a reading tutor for first grade students attending an afterschool program for a federally funded research project in the Meadows Center for Preventing Educational Risk, part of the College of Education at the University of Texas at Austin. This position includes teaching small groups of first grade students using a structured reading program, a minimum of three times a week, attending professional development sessions, recording student progress, and assisting in other project-related activities (e.g., administering assessments, managing materials). All training for the reading tutor position (instruction, data collection, progress monitoring) will be provided to the reading tutors.

Responsibilities
  • Teach a structured reading intervention with high fidelity and quality to a small group of first grade students in an afterschool program three times a week; teach make-up sessions in case of absences.
  • Administer progress monitoring measures.
  • Document student attendance and behavior.
  • Assist in other project-related activities, such as administering assessments and materials management.
  • Attend team meetings and maintain communication with project coordinators and afterschool program site coordinators/reading coaches.
  • Complete human subjects research training successfully.
Required Qualifications

This position requires a bachelor’s degree with at least one year of prior experience working with children. Daily access to transportation to Round Rock and Leander ISD. Daily availability during afterschool program hours (2:30 pm – 4:30 pm or 5:00 pm). Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

Prior experience tutoring individual or small groups of students. Prior experience working with children.

Salary

$19/hr plus depending on qualifications.

Working Conditions

Working environment includes work in classrooms, working with first grade students.

Work Shift
  • Daily availability, Monday through Friday.
  • 2:30 pm – 4:30 pm or 5:00 pm.
  • Must work a minimum of three shifts a week, for six hours a week.
