Job summary

An educational institution for visually impaired children in New Hampshire seeks a dedicated individual to design and deliver reading curriculum for Grades 1-12. Description

With supervision, designs and delivers reading curriculum and instruction for Grades 1-12.

ACCOUNTABILITIES
Essential Functions
  1. Support and train teachers in implementation of Maryland College and Career Ready Standards for reading instruction for a wide variety of students.
  2. Model lessons and co-teach reading classes for a wide variety of students.
  3. Provide intensive targeted reading instruction to individual and small groups of students as needed.
  4. Provide student reading and educational assessments.
  5. Participate in purchase and implementation of reading curriculum materials.
  6. Provide professional development for teachers in all areas of reading instruction.
  7. Adapt materials as needed for students with visual impairments and/or other disabilities.
Marginal Functions
  1. Plans and participates in on and off-campus student activities.
  2. Performs additional duties as assigned
CONDITIONS

Equipment Used: Copy machine, computer, various adaptive equipment and telephone.

Performance Standard: Must assure 100% commitment to the integration, coordination, and implementation of student programs, and compliance with health and safety standards.

Work Environment: Multiple indoor and outdoor environments with varying sound, lighting and temperature conditions. May be exposed to various conditions when providing instruction to students.

Work Schedule: 35 daytime hours, Monday through Friday with flextime within the workday and workweek. This position follows a 10-month school schedule.

Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge, skills and general abilities
  1. Comprehensive knowledge of reading instruction, curriculum, and differentiated instruction techniques.
  2. Minimum of Bachelor's degree.
  3. General knowledge of education of students with visual impairment and/or special education.
  4. General knowledge of program development and classroom resource management.
  5. Ability to push and pull in excess of 100 pounds.
  6. Ability to lift in excess of 25 pounds with assistance.

After one year in this position, the employee is required to have:

  1. General knowledge of a behavioral management and intervention protocol.
  2. Basic knowledge and fluency in uncontracted and contracted Braille.
  3. General knowledge of First Aid and CPR.
