Job summary

The Lansing School District is hiring new literacy intervention teachers to ensure no students fall behind in literacy through pull-out support, individual tutoring, and other supplemental work. They will work hand-in-hand with school leadership and teachers to ensure all students read on grade level by the end of the year.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in education or ELA-related field.
  • Urban education experience.
  • Alignment with Lansing School District’s mission and values.
  • Valid Michigan reading endorsement (BR/BT) preferred.
  • Teaching experience in an urban setting preferred.
  • Training in CRPBIS and related instructional methodologies preferred.

  • Demonstrate passion for and expertise of reading
  • Provide world-class instruction in ELA to students in need of intervention support
  • Use data to guide and effectively differentiate instruction
  • Learn and grow by incorporating feedback from school leaders, colleagues, students, and professional development sessions
  • Build relationships with students and parents to ensure a safe, welcoming, and engaging learning environment
  • Other duties as assigned to best support the Lansing School District mission

Job description

The Lansing School District serves over 10,000 PreK-12 students across 25 school buildings in the increasingly diverse urban community of Lansing, MI. In pursuit of this mission, we are hiring new literacy intervention teachers. This individual will ensure no students fall behind in literacy through pull-out support, individual tutoring, and other supplemental work. They will work hand-in-hand with school leadership and teachers to ensure all students read on grade level by the end of the year.

Teachers must work to build inclusive, nurturing classrooms where students can be themselves and work collaboratively towards common learning goals. Teachers will work alongside other teachers, parents, and students to ensure they are providing the best education experience to all students.

This individual will also support other teachers in the building through instructional coaching.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in education or ELA-related field (i.e. English, Creative Writing, Journalism, etc.)
  • Previous experience working with students in an urban education setting
  • Alignment with Lansing School District’s mission and values
Preferred Qualifications
  • Valid Michigan teaching certificate with a reading endorsement (i.e. BR, BT)
  • Previous teaching experience in an urban setting
  • Training in CRPBIS and other related instructional methodologies

$50,285 - $95,000 a year
