Program Overview

CYC began implementing Reading Corps in Colorado in 2017 to provide reading supports for kindergarten-third grade students. Colorado Reading Corps is an AmeriCorps program with the mission of ensuring that all students in Colorado are reading proficiently by the end of third grade. The Reading Corps program combines the power of national service with literacy science to deliver proven approaches that help struggling learners transform into confident students – something that translates into all areas of their lives. The program is a licensed replication of a national, evidence‑based model.

Position Summary

The Reading Corps Coaching Specialist is responsible for assisting the Reading Corps Program Manager in fully integrating the Reading Corps AmeriCorps program into CYC’s culture and identity. The Coaching Specialist is responsible for working with the program manager on program reporting, ensuring CYC/AmeriCorps mission alignment, supporting the successful implementation of the Reading Corps model within a caseload of assigned school partners, coordinating and facilitating monthly tutor trainings and orientation, and providing twice monthly supervision to tutors. This position requires traveling to different school sites across the Weld County area to meet with tutors and school staff. This position is full‑time, Greeley‑based, with an hourly rate of $24.48 and includes benefits.

Essential Functions

Tutor Support

• Provide supervision and support to a caseload of assigned AmeriCorps tutors and schools.
• Conduct supervision meetings twice per month with each tutor on caseload. One of these supervisions includes an inperson data review meeting with school staff.
• Ensure that tutors implement the Reading Corps model with fidelity, this includes benchmark assessments, assessment reliability checks, selection of students, scheduling, observations, and data management.
• Ensure tutors are held accountable with program expectations and with data entry; enact accountability measures as needed (restorative conversations, performance improvement plans, etc.).
• Complete mid and endofyear evaluations for tutors and support goal progress throughout the year.
• Be main point of contact for caseload of tutors and problem solve tutor challenges and needs.
• Review, correct, and approve tutor timesheets every week to ensure compliance.
• Develop and facilitate trainings for tutors throughout the year.

Program Support

• Support completion of Reading Corps program goals.
• Build strong and sustainable partnerships with the service sites (schools) in which tutors are serving.
• Communicate with school staff including tutors’ onsite supervisors, school administration and teachers as needed to provide support to tutor and their students.
• Facilitate restorative meetings with site supervisors, tutors, school administration, the Reading Corps Program Manager, etc. when conflict arises.
• Assist program staff and recruitment team with managing school/site recruitment, tutor recruitment, school/site placement, and tutor onboarding.
• Provide regular feedback and participate in calls/meetings/trainings with state and national level program partners as necessary.
• Work collaboratively with other coaching specialists, program managers, site supervisors, school and CYC staff to provide cohesive services among the programs.
• With the assistance of Human Resources and CYC leadership, carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
