Job summary

Sylvan Learning Center is seeking fun, dedicated Reading and Writing teachers for after-school tutoring. We tutor elementary to high school students in reading and writing using pre-planned lessons in small groups of up to three students.

Flexible part-time hours, paid training, and opportunities for professional development are offered. A four-year degree and teaching credentials are required, with 1–2 years of teaching experience preferred.

Qualifications

• Four year degree or equivalent required.
• State or provincial teaching credentials (current or expired).
• Minimum of one or two years of teaching experience preferred.
• Knowledge of phonics and reading comprehension preferred for reading teachers.
• Ability to multi-task.
• Knowledge of tablet computers preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead instruction in reading and writing in small groups (max 3 students).
• Use pre-planned lessons that are straightforward, easy to manage.
• Motivate students to be successful and engaged in learning.
• Collaborate with staff to provide a positive after-school tutoring experience.

Reading and Writing Teachers Wanted for Fun After-School Tutoring!

Sylvan Learning Center is looking for fun, dedicated teachers to help and inspire students. We are currently looking for elementary, middle school, and high school reading and English tutors who are able to teach reading and writing at a variety of grade levels.

Sylvan creates individualized learning plans for students of all abilities. Working with well-behaved groups of only three students, our reading, writing and English tutors are responsible for leading instruction and motivating students to be successful. There are no lesson plans to create, no homework to grade, no parent-conferencing, and scheduling is flexible. Enjoy all of the benefits of teaching ELA, without any of the downsides!

What you should know

• If you enjoy teaching, working with, and inspiring students, this is the job for you. (We want you to be happy here!)
• You will use pre-planned lessons. They are straightforward, easy to manage, and fun to teach
• Teach students in a small group setting. There will be no more than 3 students per teacher
• Most teachers choose to work 2-5 days/week
• This is NOT a remote position
