Job summary

AmeriCorps READ USA Daytime Tutor program in Jacksonville, FL seeks dedicated tutors to support literacy for students in grades 2–5 in Title 1 schools. Participants will undergo a one-week training, then be placed in one of six elementary schools in Duval County for daytime tutoring.

Participants tutor 2-3 students at a time, with sessions around 40 minutes, five days a week, under READ USA’s literacy model. Program runs Oct 2026–Jun 2027.

Qualifications

• AmeriCorps Tutors attend required trainings and tutor students who are in grades 2-5 and are significantly behind in reading skills.
• Members deliver literacy tutoring lessons to 2-3 students at a time.
• Responsibilities include lesson prep, tutoring/mentoring students, completing lesson reflections and progress notes in an organized and timely manner.

Job description

The READ USA AmeriCorps Team Leader Program is dedicated to improving literacy rates among elementary students in Title 1 schools within Duval County. You will go through a one-week initial training, and then you will be placed in one of our 6 elementary schools throughout Duval County. At least two AmeriCorps tutors will serve side by side with students in grades 2 – 5 who are significantly behind in reading skills. You will tutor a roster of students, working daily in small groups 5 times a week. Each tutoring session will last approximately 40 minutes, using READ USA’s proven literacy instruction model. Each month the program brings the Corps together for training and team building.
